Beyond Therapy: Christopher Durang's Farcical Comedy

Full Price:
$30.00
Our Price:
$15.00

The Jean Shelton Foundation presents Beyond Therapy, by Christopher Durang, a playwright famed for his outrageous and absurd comedy. Beyond Therapy centers around Prudence and Bruce, Manhattanites in therapy to turn around their poor track record with romance. Their therapists encourage them to place personal ads, leading to a disastrously funny first date between the two. As the two would-be romantics stumble toward a relationship with each other, it becomes increasingly clear that the therapists are more troubled than their patients. Beyond Therapy is Durang's most frequently produced play. Learn More

There were 4 solo performers, all unique in style and delivery. My date and I were impressed and thoroughly enjoyed the performances. It was obvious that each performer gave it their all. We loved the atmosphere (small, intimate theater) and the courteous staff.

This is a wonderful opportunity to see some very dedicated artists perform in an intimate setting. I was very impressed with the energy invested in each of the four sets. Each performer offered a window into their personal life experiences in ways that we all could relate to- which were laced with a rich mixture of comedic pathos, and honesty.
I strongly urge you to promote this fine show casing of dedicated and accomplished performers-

I think the problem may well have been an age-related question. I am 48, my partner is 54. The themes that were dealt with in the first two skits seemed specifically aimed at younger audiences. They just didn't resonate with us. I can't tell you any more, because we left as soon as the intermission came. I'd be curious to hear from other middle-aged patrons to know whether they felt the same as we did...
