Writer and comic Bruce Vilanch steps into a role previously performed by Bert Lahr and Red Skelton in this production of Du Barry Was a Lady. Featuring music and lyrics by Cole Porter, the story follows a hapless nightclub washroom attendant who wins the Irish Sweepstakes. An inadvertent dose of knock-out drops transports him to a dream world where he imagines himself as King Louis XV in pursuit of the lovely and mischievous Madame Du Barry. Porter's score features terrific numbers including "Friendship," "Well, Did You Evah?," "Do I Love You?," "Katie Went to Haiti" and "But in the Morning, No." Learn More

I enjoyed the show despite the somewhat lackluster, amateurish performances and despite the uncomfortably cold theater. This play is seldom produced and I am grateful to the Rhinoceros Theater for taking the risk to present one of Tennessee Williams' lesser-know works.
