Barbra and Frank: The Concert That Never Was

It's a match made in Vegas! Two of the most impressive celebrity impersonators in the business -- Sharon Owens and Sebastian Anzaldo -- pay tribute to two of music's greatest icons -- Barbra Streisand and Frank Sinatra. In real life, Streisand and Sinatra never performed live together, but in this show, Owens and Anzaldo sing some of the most most memorable music ever written and exchange banter so spot-on to their characters that you feel like you've been transported to the celebrity concert you always wished had happened. For her amazing Streisand impersonation, Owens was winner of the Fox TV show Performing As..., which led to a series of TV appearances and a long run at the Las Vegas Riviera, where she headlined with Anzaldo in Barbra and Frank, The Concert That Never Was. Anzaldo, who has the voice, looks and mannerisms of 'Ol Blue Eyes, was one of the top acts on the Vegas circuit for eight years with his band Wild Life before joining forces with Owens for Barbra and Frank. The group was wonderful and the venue is very nice. Parking can be a bit trying, other than that it was a very nice adult small venue event I like. Thank you so much. PS you will most likely get a couple more new Goldstar members from this one.

More Information About Sonando Project: Stevie Wonder Tribute

Description

The exciting ensemble Sonando offers a unique and fiery blend of contemporary jazz and Afro-Caribbean traditions. They fuse jazz with Afro-Caribbean rhythms, Afro-Cuban folklore and Brazilian jazz flavors. On stage the group traverses a musical landscape from improvisational contemporary jazz to rumba and timba-esque dance grooves.

The world-class musicians of Sonando--saxophonist and flutist Darren Smith, pianist Bob Crawford, bassist Sam Bevan, drummer David Flores and conga player Patricio Angulo--have been together since Angulo established the band in 1999.

Over the past seven years, Sonando has thrilled audiences at a wide variety of venues in the San Francisco Bay Area, including Yoshi's, Jazz at Pearl’s, the San Jose Jazz Festival, the North Beach Jazz Festival, The Jazz School, Cafe Claude, the Jupiter and the Top of the Mark. For years, they were a fixture at the 850 Montgomery (Cigar Bar) in San Francisco.

Percussionist Patricio Angulo has studied under world-renowned percussionist Michael Spiro and performed with artists such as Dr. Loco and his Rockin’ Jalapeño Band, Fito Reinoso’s Ritmo y Armonía, and Orquesta D’Soul. He is also the director and founder of one of Bay Area’s favorite salsa/timba groups, Rumbaché.

Saxophonist Darren Smith has been a member of the groups O-Maya, Agua Libre, The Amandla Poets, The Slaptones, Brazuca Brown, Rumbaché (formerly Quimbombó) and Tito Garcia’s Orquesta La Internacional. He has played with Sonando since the group’s inception.

Pianist Bob Crawford has toured with Michael Franti & Spearhead and Joe Craven’s Django Latino project. He also leads his own all-original Latin fusion project, Machina Sol.

Bassist Sam Bevan was a member of the David Grisman Quintet from 2000 to 2001. Since then, he’s played with Adam Levy, Jenna Mammina, Realistic, Contemporary Jazz Orchestra, Hot Club of San Francisco and the Mitch Marcus Quintet, among many others.

Drummer David Flores has worked with local and international trailblazers including Lauryn Hill, Orestes Vilato, Donna Summer, Pete Escovedo, John Santos, Michael Spiro, Steve Turre, Peter Erskine, Bobbi Cespedes, Mark Levine, John Calloway, Mickey Hart and Melvin Seals. He performs with Bay Area groups including AguaLibre (formally O-Maya), Los Mocosos, Carne Cruda, Machina Sol, John Calloway and Diaspora, Mas Cabeza Quartet and Rolando Morales.
