This is one musical that promises to deliver a bloody good time ... literally. Stephen Sondheim's chilling masterpiece of murderous "barber-ism" and culinary crime is set in 19th-century London and tells the twisted tale of Benjamin Barker, alias Sweeney Todd, who returns to London after 15 years' banishment on false charges. Now he's ready to exact revenge on those who wronged him. At first focusing his malevolence on the lecherous judge who framed him, his insatiable thirst for blood soon expands to include his unfortunate customers. A tale of retribution and obsession, Sweeney Todd serves up deliciously macabre portions of gruesome humor, sinister spite and suspicious meat pies.

Ray of Light Theatre presents the Tony Award-winning musical by Stephen Sondheim, with book by James Lapine. Into the Woods interweaves and reimagines several Brothers Grimm fairy tales to consider whether "happily ever after" is really even possible. Unable to bear children, a baker and his wife are lured into completing a number of tasks by a witch who promises to grant them their wish. During their journey, they encounter Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel, Cinderella and Jack and the Beanstalk. The original Broadway run won critical praise and numerous awards, and the cast recording, which includes "Children Will Listen," "Giants in the Sky" and "No One Is Alone," took home a Grammy. An exceptionally great show. I figured I would get what I paid for, but they managed to work miracles with a simple stage set up and a few musicians.

The show was amazing! We really enjoyed the sets, costumes, and the acting. The only issue we had was with one song, where the two couples were singing (Sweeney/Mrs. Lovett and Johnna/her fellow)- The singing was very muddled, and we could not understand any of the lyrics. Though the quality of the show was quite good. I enjoyed seeing this on stage.

A really talented cast with an amazing band. The direction was a little plodding making for a slow start. The show I was at sold out of coffee drinks at intermission, so I guess I wasn't the only one feeling sleepy. I would still recommend this show though!
