Swing Set Jazz Combo, the award-winning, student-led sextet from Santa Rosa's Maria Carrillo High School, makes its San Francisco debut at the Rrazz Room. The up-and-coming SSJC's led by electric violinist Gabe Gladstein, who has studied under the Bay Area's own Turtle Island Quartet and plays a violin originally made for and owned by jazz fusion virtuoso Jean-Luc Ponty. The group's sound -- which incorporates vibes, keyboards, bass, drums and alto sax alongside Gladstein's electric violin -- stretches from swing and '50s/'60s standards to original arrangements of tunes by the likes of Thelonious Monk, Bill Evans, Chick Corea and Herbie Hancock.
