Discover the deliciousness of domestically produced Spanish wine varietals at this seventh annual tasting sponsored by TAPAS (Tempranillo Advocates, Producers and Amigos Society). This is the most extensive tasting of Tempranillos and other crowd-pleasing Spanish varietals produced by local wineries. Held at the beautiful Golden Gate Club at the Presidio, this wine tasting event allows you to sample Tempranillos, Albariños, Garnachas, Verdelhos, Tourigas, and many other varieties in a casual walk-around setting with ample opportunity to chat with the growers and producers to learn more about their wines. Go beyond the Cabernets, Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays that dominate the California market and try these fast-growing varietals, many of which come from family-owned wineries that produce only small amounts that aren't widely available. If you find something you like, you can buy it and impress your friends or a date with your selection. In addition to the tasting, there will be a silent auction and the TAPAS Wine School, featuring short afternoon seminars on dessert wines made with Iberian varieties and Garnacha wine grapes. Grapes native to the Iberian Peninsula produce some of the hottest-selling wines on the market right now, but not many people know that there are excellent and unique domestic versions being grown, too. Consumers will have the unique opportunity to taste wines produced by TAPAS members, including many limited-production, family-owned wineries that will be pouring small lot wines that are not widely available.
The event will include a silent auction featuring special wines and other great items.
A special feature of this year’s Grand Wine Tasting is the TAPAS Wine School, included in the admission price. Enjoy two special seminars:
2:30-3:00pm – Exotic Iberian Varietals — Sommelier Ellen Landis will lead guests through a magical tasting of exotic Iberian varieties grown by the West’s avant-garde vintners.
3:30-4:00pm – Albariños — Wine Chef Tony Lawrence will explore the range and diversity of Spain’s noble white grape grown in American soils.
