Great show. Significantly better than the last time I'd seen them. And though I usual run far and fast from singers, I felt Wendy Lewis was outstanding. An all around great concert.

This was a great show. I'd been listening to the recordings a lot in days prior to the show and the performance surpassed all my expectations. I completely disagree with the other reviewer who did not like the singer. Her voice sounded much stronger live than on the recording of the new album.

The band members were fantastic, but I very much disliked the performance by the female singer. She was completely off the mark. I would have much more enjoyed the performance had she not been a part of it.

One of the best concerts I've ever attended by any group. Amazing musicians with arrangements that make one view a familiar piece in a new way.

Quotes & Highlights

  • “By any standard, jazz or otherwise, it is moving, mighty music…bad to the bone, hot players with hard-rock hearts.” --Rolling Stone

Description

Described as “a jazz piano trio with the heart and gall of a stadium rock band” by The New York Times, The Bad Plus returns to San Francisco Performances with the rave-reviewed new album Never Stop.

Bassist Reid Anderson, pianist Ethan Iverson and drummer David King celebrate ten years of heady, powerful music-making—from ballads to abstract riffs. The Bad Plus has dazzled crowds at SF Performances, Yoshi’s and SF Jazz, and returns to the city riding the momentum of this season’s concert tour.

The Bad Plus started making waves in the jazz world when it first came together: The group’s covers of classics by the Police, Rush, Black Sabbath, Neil Young, Radiohead, Bobbie Vinton and Nirvana are distinct, riotous and astounding.

This time, the songs are all their own, and they tell stories smartly and powerfully in works including “Bill Hickman at Home” and “My Friend Metatron.” The SF Performances concert at the Herbst will give an intimate look into the many layers of their intrepid musical imagination.
