Agree with one of the other posters...loved the first, but the rest felt disjointed and didn't always have chemistry.

Still, a solid night of great choreography and never a disappointment.

A blend of strength and creativity in this modern, non-traditional ballet. 3 pieces performed, each different in feeling, choreography and presentation. The third piece, The Cinderella Principle, was an incredible presentation of the new face of the American family. Music, narration and dance were woven seamlessly together to make for a thought provoking performance. Very enjoyable!

I had high expectations perhaps, but was confused by the relationship of choreography to Cinderella or to the text. The story itself was incredibly safe, nothing close the real challenges of "new" families. Chinese adoption, gay adoption . . . ho, hum. Old news.

Dancers are strong and beautiful, but I was disappointed that with all the great Black dancers out there (especially not that DTH is gone), Robert has such a monolithic troupe. Seems hypocritical in context of the desired message. Added to the ho-hum for me.

I loved, loved, loved the first piece. I enjoyed most of the musical accompaniment overall. I did not like the duet at all. I thought the woman was terrible- very stiff and no chemistry with her partner.

The main piece was ok for me. My friend loved it,but I am more into a dance piece that is abstract than narrative. I found the main piece a little didactic and wasn't sure how the choreography matched up with the story each couple was telling. It seemed kind of disjointed to me.

Description

The nationally acclaimed Robert Moses’ Kin (RMK)  contemporary dance company presents the world premiere of The Cinderella Principle: Try these on, see if they fit, an hour-long work exploring non-traditional family structures.

The Cinderella Principle, a new interdisciplinary work that showcases Moses' dynamic and athletic choreographic style, is a project that explores non-traditional family structures and the formation of identity. The Cinderella Principle represents a creative process that has evolved from in-depth interviews with families throughout the Bay Area, and represents a tapestry of voices about identity, race, class, gender, and ultimately, love.

It also represents a first-time collaboration with award-winning playwright Anne Galjour, set to an original score by nationally recognized violinist/composer, Todd Reynolds, who will perform live with star Bay Area beat boxer Kid Beyond. The work reflects a new way of looking at and understanding identity, family relationships and love.
