The Swiss first cousin of Anne Frank, 86-year-old Buddy Elias, comes to the JCCSF to share personal remembrances of his young playmate, along with insights on her life, tragic death and the famed diary that's provided an intimate and powerful view into racism, anti-semitism and daily life during the Holocaust for untold millions of readers. After Elias' mother died in 2001, he found a treasure trove of more than 6,000 keepsakes -- photos, correspondence and more -- in her attic, providing a personal and touching new view into the family's lives in and out of hiding, and that of Otto Frank, who survived only to discover his wife and daughters had been killed in the concentration camps.

It was wonderful to have some personal insight into the family of Anne Frank. Her cousin gave us information that continues with Otto Frank after the incarcerated inhabitants of the concentration camps are liberated and must start to reconnect and rebuild their lives. One cannot be saddened by the loss of such a bright spirit as Anne Frank being snuffed out before fully living up to her true potential. Mr. Elias gave us all a very special gift in keeping Anne's legacy alive.

Very meaningful and heartfelt presentation about the Frank family by Anne's first cousin, Buddy, and his wife.

Buddy Elias and his wife are dynamic speakers and presented a difficult piece of history through letters and poems written by Otto Frank and their extended family and found in the book Ann Frank's Family (copies of which were available for purchase and signing by Mr. Elias.) I read Ann Frank's Diary as a child and visited the hideout in Amsterdam in my 20's. The evening was very moving and meaningful to me.
