The New Conservatory Theatre Center presents the San Francisco premiere of The Story of My Life, a funny and deeply moving musical about lifelong best friends Alvin and Thomas. As time tests the bonds of their relationship, best-selling author Thomas calls on the only resource he has -- his own stories of Alvin -- to figure out where things went wrong. Nominated for four 2009 Drama Desk awards, including Outstanding Musical, The Story of My Life pays tribute to the power of friendship, the personal cost of success, and the choices we make at the turning points of our lives. Much better than the version I saw in Orange County. The lead actress was phenomenal and really anchored the other content in the show.Written on Nov 02 2009

This was typical NCTC fare with the obligatory and pandering drop your pants action. There was the usual chemistry between the two principals (an aspiring actor and a twank -- a twenty something posing as a teen) based on nothing more than you're cute, I love you, I want to sacrifice my career, and everything else for you. There's no need to develop characters when you're selling sex and that's the case here. The same absence of anything suggesting chemistry was found between the twank and his "girl friend". Insufferable was the actor's agent, a loud unmitigated shrill who would not, could not succeed in her business as enacted at NCTC.Written on Oct 05 2009

Lots of fun. Michaela is wonderful as usual. She has great timing. The rest of the cast was also enjoyable.Written on Nov 09 2009

This show was very witty and engaging. All of the performers did a great job and there were some good laughs throughout. I am planning to see it again!Written on Sep 28 2009
