The New Stars of the Purple Onion returns after its smash September success, with more rising stars of the jazz and cabaret scene stepping to the mic for their chance in the spotlight.
The shows are at the legendary North Beach night spot, The Purple Onion, where The Smothers Brothers, The Kingston Trio and Phyllis Diller all springboarded to stardom. Now restored, the nightclub serves up weekly doses of cabaret, comedy, jazz and the best Neapolitan food this side of Naples.
December New Stars will feature songwriters Carol Peters, Daphna Rahmil, Teddy Randazzo, Jr. and Starrly Winchester; jazz voices Khadijah, Ellen Nicholas and Stephen Randolph; Brazilian jazz diva Masha Campagne; Broadway powerhouses Mindy Lym and Robyn Taylor; crooner Rick Lasquete; the whimsical Carol Stuart; the Absolutely Unclassifiable Jason Emanuel Britton and Nancy Tierney; and The Purple Onion's answer to Jimmy Durante, Phil Wiseman.
The New Stars, each Monday, is hosted by those sassy, transplanted New Yorker divas, The Kitchenettes - Lua Hadar and Linda Kosut, with musical direction by Barry Lloyd.
