The Burning Man festival has drawn people young and old to the desert every year for over 25 years. People make the pilgrimage each year for various reasons - for art, community, spirituality or just to party, this counterculture gathering continues to draw nomads into the heart of the desert each year, and each year it slowly evolves. Steven T. Jones, author of The Tribes of Burning Man, Barbara Traub, author of Desert to Dream: A Decade of Burning Man Photography, and Alix Rosenthal of the Black Rock Arts Foundation come together at the Jewish Community Center of San Francisco to discuss this phenomenon and its evolution from arts festival into a full-fledged community and what it may grow into in the future.

There was not enough content; I was hoping for lots of slide show pics or even footage of Burning Man events from the past. One of the key speakers did not show up and the 3 that did were just o.k.> the 1st speaker brought all of 12 slides, hardly a tease of the many many pics we could of sat and looked at for those of us who have never been to Burning Man. The speakers were o.k., sometimes vague. I left disappointed but realized the whole purpose may have been to seel books due to the book signing that took place after the Q& A part. I'm just glad Goldstar was able to offer these for FREE.

Tedious, shallow, unimaginative talks.
Photographs were good and informative.
Speakers were serious about the subject and tried hard.

Description

For over 25 years, the Burning Man festival has been an annual pilgrimage for tens of thousands of artists and counter-culture seekers. Held in the desert flats of northwestern Nevada during the last days of summer, attendees take part in a week-long celebration focused on the creation of art. In recent years, it has become more than an arts festival and has morphed into an experiment in creating a community. Join Steven T. Jones, author of The Tribes of Burning Man, Barbara Traub, author of Desert to Dream: A Dozen Years of Burning Man Photography, and Alix Rosenthal of the Black Rock Arts Foundation for an insider’s view on the past and future of this significant cultural phenomenon.
