Named one of the top ten plays of 2009 by The Advocate, Daniel Talbott's Slipping is an emotional drama about Eli, a high-school senior, who moves with his mother from California to Iowa after his dad's death. But after being mistreated by his closeted ex in California, Eli struggles with the idea of starting a new relationship with the straight star athlete who's befriended him and now wants to get even closer. New Conservatory Theatre Center is known for its innovative productions centered on theatrical work for youth and the LGBT community, and continues that mission with this show, directed by Andrew Nance. Simple predictable storyline but with a twist and GREAT acting. The lead "Sugar Witch" was perfect in her role. The set was also perfict. It never changed yet it was always adding believability to the setting and story line.

Southern but not really that gothic. Yeah, maybe one of the best things NCT has done recently but if you are only going to NCT you need to get out more! This would have mede a much better 80 to 90 minute production--not enough content to fill 2 hours. Sugar Witch's speech in latter part of act 2 was great for both acting and content. If only they had this kind of fire (acting, direction and content) for the whole production!

I enjoyed this production. The story was intriguing and the acting was very good. Very comfortable theater although not full and that was disappointing.

Like others have said, I think this is the best NCTC production in a couple of years. It plays to their strengths and provides a venue for gay-themed theater that is desired and needed. The set is great, and the lead performers (esp. the women) are terrific. I would like to see more plays like this at NCTC and less repeats of main-stage, B'Way productions that have already been done a number of times in the Bay Area (like the upcoming "Masterclass" or the recent "Doubt')
