This is not your ordinary, small theatre experience. The music, the singing and the acting were all first rate and just happened to be presented at a relatively small place. It could just as easily have been presented at ACT or off-Broadway, it was that profesionally done. Don't miss it, it is absolutely excellent. I can't remember that last time I've been to a play where virtually the entire crowd gave a standing ovation at the end!Written on Nov 02 2009

Like one reviewer already said, it hardly seems fair to make comparisons of this show to anything else Who related, however, since you asked, being a lifelong Who fan (seen them a dozen or more times since the late 70's), and a big fan of the campy movie version directed by Ken Russell starring a perfectly cast Roger Daltrey, and having seen the Broadway version in NYC years ago, it is hard not to see the shortcomings of this local production. I took the kids to see it so they could have their own experience like I did when I was their age, and despite what I thought were muddy and hard to hear vocals, a set design lacking the polish of a Broadway production, the band did a great job of reproducing some classic tunes and it was still an entertaining couple of hours and I wouldn't disuade anyone from going. Afterwards, I took the kids home and showed them the movie. Now, they understand what it was really about. Nuff said. Listening to you.......Written on Oct 26 2009

Just an overall great night of high-energy theater. The Who would be proud of this production. Even the staff were on the ball and gracious. Opening night was a blast.Written on Oct 19 2009

Description
Ray of Light Theatre, San Francisco's inimitable non-profit musical theatre company, announces the opening of its 9th season with a rock music spectacle, The Who's "Tommy". This Tony award-winning musical runs at The Victoria Theatre in San Francisco, home of the company's wildly successful and critically acclaimed productions of "The Rocky Horror Show" in 2008, and "Bat Boy: The Musical" in 2005.
The Who's "Tommy" is a roof-raising musical explosion based on The Who's acclaimed 1969 concept album, now celebrating its 40th anniversary. After witnessing the accidental murder of his mother's lover by his father, Tommy is traumatized into crippling catatonia. As the boy grows, Tommy suffers abuse at the hands of his sadistic relatives and neighbors until he reaches adolescence and is discovered to have an uncanny knack for playing pinball. When his mother finally breaks through his catatonia, he becomes an international pinball superstar. This exhilarating story of hope, healing and the human spirit is filled with iconic hit songs like "Pinball Wizard", "See Me, Feel Me", "Acid Queen" and more. Unforgettable music, a gripping story and an amazing cast make "Tommy" an eye-opening, must-see musical theatre event.
