Description

Sleepwalkers Theatre, selected as Best Theatre Company in 2009 by SF Weekly, explodes into 2010 with a wildly imaginative trilogy by Berkeley playwright J.C. Lee. This World and After, a phantasmagoric journey of three women traveling through a modern mythic landscape, is comprised of three full length original plays, opening with the historical drama set in the 1990’s, This World Is Good.

In the midst of Y2K hysteria, Allejandra Espinosa must come to grips with her brother Sam’s suicide and solve the mystery he left behind in his boxes of handmade comic books. Through evocative poetry and experimental narrative, This World Is Good balances a simple human story of loss with a larger commentary on the destruction we have sparked as relentless consumers. A prelude to the end times unfolding during the second piece in the trilogy (Opening: April 2011), This World Is Good journeys from the intellectual to the intimate, as it explores one woman’s attempt to find peace in her increasingly chaotic world.

J.C. Lee is an east coast transplant who grew up in New York City and spent his summers on the now notorious Jersey Shore. His plays have been seen throughout the country including the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington D.C., the Williamstown Theatre Festival in Williamstown, MA, Stages Repertory Theatre in Houston, Crowded Fire Theatre Company in San Francisco and many others. He's the recipient of multiple awards for his plays, poetry and essays. J.C. is the former Founding Artistic Director of the Omicron Theatre Project as well as a former faculty member at the Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Performing Arts where he taught Directing, Playwrighting, Contemporary American Drama and Shakespeare. He lives in Berkeley with his partner Adrian Anchondo and their amazing cat Lilo.
