Jazz at Pearl's (San Francisco, CA)
Rated 3.3 by 3 members who went.
Milla Molojkovic evokes the feeling of the old-time alto vocalists, eminating the class and elegance of Ella Fitzgerald and the playfulness of Peggy Lee. Milla's song selection conveys both a love for the classics of Porter and Ellington and the daring to re-create lesser-known musical gems. Her current CD release is called Prelude.

Milla is a wonderful vocalist and a fantastic person. Great show! The venue, however, Jazz at Pearl's, was a disorganized cash-only mess! A cash-only nightclub is rediculous. Our server was in the weeds and, although, he was doing the best he could, it took half an hour for us to get drinks. We wanted food and were told the kitchen is so backed up we "might get our food order before the set ends, but no promises". What a poorly managed venue.

Milla was absolutely fantastic! She has a beautiful voice and her band was excellent too!
As for the venue (Jazz at Pearl's), it's a cute little venue nestled right in the heart of North Beach. Our group of 4 got great seats, but it's a pretty small venue so I doubt that there are any bad seats in the house. The only negative part of the experience was that there was only ONE waiter and ONE cook for the entire venue. The waiter was running around and doing the best he could but it was definitely hard to keep up with all the customers and we would've liked more water. Also, while 2 of us had eaten prior to the show, the other 2 in our group were hoping to eat at the venue and after waiting for nearly the entire duration of the show managed to finally flag the waiter down only to be told that there was only ONE cook and that realistically there was no way that anything they ordered would arrive before the end of the show! Luckily my friend decided to ask for some bread & butter and the waiter did actually come back w/ some eventually.
So, while the singing was great, the management decision to have only one waiter and one cook on staff left us hungry and pretty unsure whether we'd recommend this venue to anyone else in the future.

Vocalist Milla Milojkovic will be joined at Pearl's by Adan Schulman, piano; Dayna Stephens, bass; Ben Waniker, bass; Bob Brumbeloe, guitar; and Tim Bulkley, drums.
Milla is blessed to have been born into a family of music enthusiasts. In the Milojkovic household, music was not only a way of life, it was also a way to stay connected to Yugoslav culture. Her parents emigrated from the former Yugoslavia, and her mother continued to sing Balkan folk music and play in tamburitza orchestras with Milla and her sister alongside her. At the tender age of five, Milla sang her first solo at a Slavic music festival for a crowd of hundreds. From that point on, there was little else that Milla would consider as a lifepath; she was hooked.
Milla's ethnic connections and her love of music brought her many performance opportunities in the rich Slavic music community throughout her youth. She began a rigorous study of classical voice and operatic training during her teens, going on to study at the Manhattan School of Music and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where she earned her B.M. in Vocal Performance.
Milla's debut CD, Dream a Little, features skillful renditions of some of American Songbook classics. The recording was enhanced by several legendary jazz musicians: pianist Larry Vuckovich, Serbian-American bassist Buca Necak, former Count Basie drummer Harold Jones, and renowned reeds player Noel Jewkes. The release has been gaining momentum, receiving airplay on jazz radio stations in hundreds of cities across the United States.
