- $15.00
- Our Price:
- $7.50
The Marsh presents Vital Signs, Alison Whittaker's honest and funny portrayal of working life in a modern hospital in the diverse community of San Francisco. Whittaker is frank and unflinching about the tragedies, but also reveals the comedy inherent in an environment where lives can be lost or restored on a regular basis. Whittaker plays nearly two dozen characters, including nurses, doctors, patients and their families as they all attempt, in their own way, to cope with the stark realities of their situations. Written on Nov 07 2012Enjoyed the show and it was exciting to be there when the announcement came that Obama had won. However, I had been at his show at the JCC the previous Saturday and it was almost word for word the same jokes. I had hoped he would come up with new material for his final "Elect to Laugh" show.
Written on Nov 07 2012Absolutely wonderful, timely and nonstop laughing.
Written on Oct 23 2012Will Durst takes on politics and sanity in general. He's the funniest guy in town and a treat for all ages. My 20 year old son didn't get all the references, but he still laughed until his sides hurt. And my 75 year old mother laughed even harder.
Don't ever miss a chance to see Will in person.
Written on Oct 10 2012Hysterically funny look at what's going on in the political arena. As Durst said, like the Olympics, he's in-demand every 4 years. Don't miss this go round.
Written on Oct 03 2012Durst is good! On top of inane politics. We laughed a lot.
Written on Sep 26 2012Laughed for almost the whole hour and a half
Written on Sep 22 2012Will Durst is great - similar to a George Carlin - with the most astute observations combined with a true command of the English Language. AND he was funny.
Written on Sep 19 2012Will Durst still has it. The show was fabulous. He's doing this every Tuesday until the election. You can't miss these opportunities to see this San Francisco treasure.
Written on Sep 19 2012Pretty funny guy. I have to admit that I was a bit taken back by Goldstar advertisement. For some reason I thought the actor would look like the picture being promoted...who I vaguely remember seeing in my lifetime. I had no idea that in reality this gentleman was probably at least 60-70 years old. Would have probably been better to have both 'then and now pictures'
Written on Sep 14 2012mostly topical commentary on politics. very funny but extremely liberal. spent more than 30 minutes on skewering the RNC participants and maybe 3 minutes lauding the DNC politicians.
Written on Sep 12 2012Will Durst is still bitingly funny, with impeccable timing and a sardonic wit. Political comedy doesn't get better than this and he's got a great rapport with the audience, even the dog!
Written on Sep 05 2012Non stop laughter, for a mature audience or the historically knowledgeable. I don't know, I think my 'kid' would have found it funny, but he grew up in Berkeley. The jokes just tumble out, before I finished laughing at the last one.
Written on Sep 05 2012Very entertaining. Fresh perspective. Crossed the line just the right number of times.
Written on Sep 05 2012Very topical, very funny, an intimate setting, a thoroughly enjoyable evening -- highly recommend it! (Liberal bias, so may not be as funny to conservatives.)
Written on Sep 05 2012Quite entertaining and funny. Really nice to hear good, solid, witty comedy about current events. Very entertaining and lots of laughs. Love the intimate setting of the Marsh as well! Highly recommend!
Written on Aug 29 2012Durst was in incredible form and the audience was great. We could hardly stop laughing long enough to breathe. Can't wait for the next show.
Written on Aug 22 2012We laughed a lot and even caught up on some political gaffes we'd missed in recent times!
Written on Aug 22 2012Highly enjoyable show for all who appreciate political humor. Open seating at the Marsh is not a problem - you can see well from any seat.
Written on Aug 08 2012Funny and right on. Mitt might have trouble understanding it...though!
Written on Aug 08 2012I enjoyed Durst back in the day when he appeared on Saturday Night Live. I hadn't considered how much the pace of political humor has changed, though, when I booked these tickets. It's tough for a lone comedian to keep up with the likes of the Daily Show, Colbert Report and Real Time - all of which have gangs of writers. His material seemed a bit stale, and he knew it. Durst seemed to hit his groove in the last third of the show, and I left with a smile on my face. Doubtful I'd go to see him again, but with the Goldstar discount, I don't regret attending this event.
Written on Aug 08 2012We went last night and he was hysterical! Fantastic show, every minute of the hour and a half was filled with laughter. He's astute, intelligent, spot on in his impersonations and observations of our political scene and he delivers with contagious energy that infects the whole crowd.
I highly recommend spending a Tuesday night at the Marsh with Mr. Durst, who is now a SF resident. Lucky us!
Written on Aug 08 2012He was good. The room was 'hot' with little ventilation though.
Written on Aug 01 2012If you like political comedy and satire, you will enjoy this show immensely. Had a wonderful time and laughed through the entire show. Will Durst is one of my favorite comedians, I find him witty, intelligent and damn funny. The Marsh is a great space and the location is wonderful for a night out in the city. Ate a delicious dinner before hand and had a great night.
Written on Aug 01 2012My wife and I attended. We were hoping Durst would make us laugh. And he succeeded. We were discouraged by the republican campaign attacking Obama, and Durst fired back beautifully, puncturing the ego of the Republican contenders, many of whose names I had forgotten. Durst remembered Cain, Perry, etc. and his monologue was delicious. By the time we walked out, we were smiling, even hopeful. Such a beautiful result from laughing, chuckling. Thanks, Durst.
Written on Aug 01 2012Will Durst has a very inventive mind that is sure to make everyone laugh heartily at some point in the show! A grand ramble through the political and social landscape of this crazy country.
Written on Aug 01 2012I really enjoyed Durst's performance. He's a great performer with an acute ear for the idiocies of our current political scene.
Written on Jul 22 2012I'm from Way Back When, loving the insightful satire of wizards like Dick Gregory & Mort Sahl. Will's work sits comfortably among theirs, and to have the treat of seeing him in such an intimate venue, nonstop and solo, is a gift!
Written on Jul 18 2012Witty, acerbic and politically astute. He is able to capture the essence of political issues in a delightful and wonderful presentation. We loved it.
He relates well with his audience and kept us on our toes throughout.
Written on Jul 18 2012Hilarious! If you like Jon Stewart you'll like Will Durst too!!
Written on Jul 18 2012Will's as sharp as ever. Vote for DURST!
Written on Jul 18 2012Will Durst was great. What a blast to see him from the front row.
Really intimate venue. No one is more than 15' from the stage.
Written on Jul 12 2012If you have a good knowledge of politics and a passing awareness of history you will laugh yourself stupid at Will's shos. The woman on one side said her face hurt from laughing so much and my friend, who arrived there in a great deal of pain, said she was pain free after the show from enjoying herself and laughing so much. On the way out I overheard a woman say sheee laughed so hard she cried. I agree with them all, and them some. I'm going again and again until after the election so I can get lots of humor out of the election process, stay informed and stay up to date with what is really going on as seen through the eyes a an extremely funny political comic (as he defines himself). Go. See. Laugh. Learn.
Written on Jul 11 2012A wonderful show. I love political humor. Will was on top of his game.
He started out a little slow but warmed up soon enough to have the audiance cracking up by show's end.
Written on Jul 11 2012Will Durst hasn't lost a step. Our faces hurt from laughing as we made our way downstairs and out on Valencia.
Written on Jul 05 2012Had great time with out-of-town guests from DC. Mr. Durst's take on things political is spot-on and we laughed out loud quite a bit.
Written on Jul 04 2012Brave comic to take on the current political situation and make it funny. Go one or more times before the November election. Great antidote to fox news.
Written on Jun 27 2012People who love good comedy and political jokes on both parties should really contribute to this mans talents. Those who like masturbation and bodily function humor should stay home and...
Written on Jun 20 2012Will is a funny guy and spouts forth lots of observational jokes about current politics and politicians. Some lines are funny and humorous and some are not funnier than the muni busdriver. here's the deal with will: if the audience is not falling out of their seats laughing at his material, he will let you know that you are basically a deadbeat. not once but over and over. So make sure you are in audience where the laughter at his jokes is so raucous that he feels appreciated as a comic. Stand up before the show begins and tell everyone in the audience that they should laugh their heads off the entire time and then he'll probably tell you that you're an odd group for laughing so much at just stuff that everyone hears about and reads about anyway. I've seen Will over the last 30 years and it's the same game with him - " I need your laughter!!!" Heh heh
Written on Jun 13 2012This is an intimate setting so you feel as if Will Durst is often addressing you personally. He spoke about the process of choosing the Republican presidential nominee and about past presidents. It was bright, full of analogies and hilarious. You leave feeling intellectually stimulated and hopeful that the medium of political comedy will gain a larger audience.
Written on May 31 2012will durst is such a good comedian, he could make anything funny. My friend and I admitted that we had been paying little attention to politics ( it gets worse and worse.) and we were both afraid it would be over our heads. will makes it accessible, somehow, and politics is easy to laugh about or to crawl out the door and down the stairs over. durst just makes you laugh. we both liked it aLOT>
Written on May 31 2012Very talented comedian for the well informed. I took an ivy league friend who claims to not like comics. He had a great time and is recommending Will Durst's show to all his friends.
Written on May 31 2012Will Durst is the bomb! I laughed so hard I was crying.
Written on May 24 2012Will Durst is wry,to the point, intelligent and funny. He is also engaging with the audience in a warm and best buddy type way. I have seen him in the past yet his repertoire is always current and thought provoking. Kinda in a "its real sad and bad but lets laugh!". or lets do something about it to change .
Written on May 23 2012There is no better place to see and hear Will Durst rant and rave about everything and everyone in politics than a small theater like the Marsh, where every wrinkle in his face and twinkle in his eye can be seen to capture his words, which kept me and my friend in spontaneous laughter and delight from beginning to end. Don't miss his show; go wherever he performs. Brilliantly funny!
Written on May 17 2012This was a fabulously funny performance. I laughed harder than in the past 12 years!
Written on May 02 2012Will Durst is a local treasure and this is a great opportunity to see him woodshed some new material in a cool theater environment. We're entering in to a national election year and this is when comics like Durst make their hay. The set was laugh out loud hilarious and this will be continuing every Tuesday evening at the Marsh. Highly recommended, a SF classic performing at an intimate theater. Great stuff.
Written on Apr 25 2012As always, literate, topical. and laugh-out-loud funny. Total of 20 stars from the four of us.
Written on Apr 25 2012Great fun.
Written on Mar 28 2012don't miss this show, hysterical and informative
Written on Mar 21 2012Enjoyed the evening with Durst. He is always spot on and good for a rollicking good time filled with laughter. Great insight into political shenanigans and our current candidates for office...SCARY!!!!
The Marsh is in a terrific location. Great little restaurants to visit before or after the show, many within 2 blocks of The Marsh. Parking is difficult.
Written on Mar 21 2012show was fine. not a bad value. i laughed a couple times.
i watch "the rachel maddow show" daily and, occasionally, "real time with bill maher," so i've heard much of the political satire before.
Written on Mar 21 2012Brilliant! A good laughter-antidote to the daily news.
Written on Mar 21 2012You are in the hands of a real expert comic here, and you can't keep from laughing (really hard!) from the beginning to the end of the show. Will Durst says he'll keep changing up the material up until the election, so we look forward to seeing the show again later!
Written on Mar 21 2012Durst was very funny bashing the republicans in San Francisco but how hard is that? why wasn't there one joke about Obama or ANY democrat?
Written on Mar 21 2012Will Durst is delightful, an unabashedly liberal political comedian with a gift for making his hard work and decades of experience sound like a stream of consciousness monologue. Not all the material is fully developed or completely "works" but that seems a fair trade off because he is constantly developing new material in the show based on the latest political absurdities. I haven't laughed so hard in quite a while.
Written on Mar 15 2012Very funny and pretty sophisticated.
We both thought it was time well spent.
Written on Mar 14 2012I've seen Durst many, many times but I've never laughed as hard and as much as I did at this show. A must-see for anyone who needs a laugh and especially needs a laugh at our political scene.
Written on Mar 14 2012If you like political humor this show will be your cup of tea. Very current with sharp observations. Brings back memories of Mort Sahl.
Written on Mar 14 2012These were 90 of the funniest minutes of my life. If you like political humor, you will freak out over how flipping hilarious this show is. Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant!
Written on Mar 07 2012spontaneous political wit. Lightning paced and no one is writing his lines. He delivers his monologue in the moment as political events unravel and he reveals the craziness of both the politicians and the political pundits.
Written on Mar 07 2012Very bright, talented man who is also very perceptive about the political scene. Amazing to be so funny in such an intimate atmosphere. Worth seeing again, especially as his commentary changes with political developments.
Written on Feb 29 2012An intelligent, incredibly funny comic who still reads. And is willing to watch political debates, so we don't have to… what else do you need.
Written on Feb 29 2012If you have not kept up with any form of political news this performance will be a sleeper for you. On the other hand, if you have kept up even some with anything related to politics in the news from the last decade you will find this rapid fire, well delivered event something you won't want to miss.
Will Durst is a talented, funny and very informed "comic," as he refers to himself. The Marsh Upstairs theatre was the perfect intimate venue to enjoy this performance.
Written on Feb 29 2012Very funny! I found the show very funny and enjoyable.
Written on Feb 29 2012Nonstop biting and intelligent quips and rants. Great audience rapport.
Many good restaurants within a block.
Written on Feb 29 2012Somewhere between **** and ***** is more like it. I've seen Will several times before, and his schtik is as relevant as ever: comedy and commentary for political junkies +. This particular event is more intimate than others thanks to the setup of the Marsh Theater. Jokes are hit or miss, but there's truly something for everyone in his routine. Definitely recommended, especially if you follow politics religiously like some of us.
Written on Feb 23 2012Will Durst showed that he has not lost his touch. He did an excellent job entertaining at his "Elect to Laugh" show, skewering all the past and present Republican presidential candidates. He went on nonstop for about 90 minutes and his years honing has craft showed. The show was well worth going to.
Written on Feb 23 2012Top notch sophisticated entertainment not for the faint of smarts.
Written on Feb 22 2012Will Durst is hilarious and should be known in all literate circles. No one is doing political comedy like his. Everyone in the Bay Area should see this show; well, nearly everyone. No! Everyone! He could change minds.
Written on Feb 15 2012I laughed until I cried! Great show
Written on Feb 15 2012Excellent!
Written on Feb 09 2012This was the funniest one man show I've gone to in a long time. His humerous take on politics is spot on.
Written on Feb 08 2012Will Durst is as funny and insightful as ever.
Most of his act was brand new, as it mainly focused on the current candidates, though some of the material was recycled (but still very funny).
More Information About Will Durst's Elect to Laugh
Description
Elect To Laugh with Will Durst and Friends! is a hysterical hybrid chasing down the presidential election cycle like white on rice with material as up to date as the latest tweet from DC. It will blend monologues and commentary and perhaps the occasional rant. The show’s intent is to blur the traditional boundaries between stand- up comedy and theater. Through innovation, experimentation and a ravenous appetite for accessing the topical via the jugular, Durst and Company are out to prove that jokes are not the enemy.
Descendants of Mark Twain, George Carlin and Spalding Gray, Durst and his rotating cast will every Tuesday twist the rhythm of stand-up with poetry, punditry and puzzles o’plenty planting the production solidly in the strictures and structures of a deconstructed one man show. Or solo performance piece. Whatever. With a single aim: to mock and scoff and taunt, but with taste. Consider it political comedy for people who don’t like politics.
The show runs approximately 90 minutes, and is recommended for ages 18 and up.
