Despite the fact that I was late and made a rude entrance, this event was still totally enjoyable even with my tardiness. My girlfriend and I sat at a table with people we didn't know which made the drinking and conversation portion of the evening enjoyable and creative after our fifth glass of wine tasting.

I'm definitely no scientist but it was fun experimenting with blending wines. I was surprised to see how my smell precision and taste buds compared to others in the room. This is definitely an event I'd recommend to friends who are looking to do something a little out of the ordinary while really enjoying a great tasting room tucked away in the city. Crushpad is a great find and I can't wait to participate in their list of monthly events. Definitely check it out!

Very informative and darnright fun. Stuart was a great host, very knowledgeable and made everyone feel comfortable. Doing this surrounded by barrels and not in a conference room was a nice touch.

First I need to set the stage of this and then you will understand my OK rating.

This is a group effort and if you attend this, be prepared to talk to strangers, smile and mingle.

So coming from work, friend and I go and we were asked to save 3 seats at our table. "Sure, no problem" we say.

Event starts - great set moderator setup and snacks.

Two of the three people show up 30 minutes late and end up shaking our table so much that wine goes everywhere. And everywhere means everywhere including me and all of my stuff. Staff comes to my rescue and my white silk shirt and leather bag are rescued. BIG shout out to them.

So back to my seat, accidents happen, let's move on. Well, the third person shows up and the three of them proceed to essentially ignore us.

Not only that, but they are not particpating in the slightest. Just talking amongst themselves. So as a result, my friend and I felt uncomfortable and we were not having any fun.

And then, I find out afterwards that they commented on my clothing asking why I wore a white shirt to the event. If only, they had said that to my face.

I will say the main spillage offender did offer to pay for my ruined belongings. However he didn't offer with a hint of friendliness so why even bother???

So the net net
1) If you are not interested in meeting new people, this is not event for you
2) If you are a wine snob, this is not the event for you
3) If you like white, rethink your outfit to avoid snotty comments behind your back

Description

You've seen The Winemakers TV program on PBS. Season One featured 12 contestants picking, sorting, selling and sipping their way to the top. Using the same wine as contestants on the show, you'll get an insider's perspective on how wines are blended in this session focused on Syrah and the red Rhone varietals.

While much of the winemaking process is scientific, blending is where artistry comes into play. During this 2-hour session, you'll be guided through the same steps used to create the final blends for the luxury wines produced in the winery.

You'll finish off the evening by comparing blends you've created against the wine put together by the winner of Season One of The Winemakers.

Previous wine knowledge is not necessary. Whether you are a connoisseur of prized bottles or a wine curious novice, come sharpen your palate and gain an appreciation for why blending is the highest art form in winemaking.
