In Venice Beach, 1980, a beautiful muse from Mt. Olympus inspires a struggling artist to fulfill his dream of opening the world's first roller disco. This could only happen in Xanadu, the cult musical with music by ELO's Jeff Lynne and John Farrar. Adapted by Douglas Carter Beane (The Little Dog Laughed) from the 1980 movie starring Olivia Newton-John and Gene Kelley, Xanadu features roller-skating muses and such songs as "Magic," "All Over the World," "Evil Woman" and "I'm Alive." The San Francisco premiere at NCTC is directed and choreographed by Stephanie Temple with musical direction by G. Scott Lacy. The 2008 Broadway production was nominated for four Tony Awards including Best Musical and Best Book of a Musical.
