The joint is jumpin' in this Tony Award-winning musical revue based on the life of Thomas "Fats" Waller. Five vocal artists and a jumpin' jazz band take you through the pain and triumphs of the African-American experience during the 1920s and '30s. Step back to the Golden Age of Jazz, when places like the Cotton Club and the Savoy Ballroom were havens where snappy swing music, snazzy jazz and the stride piano infused the energy of the country.

A GREAT EVENING! The five vocal performers were fabulous and the musicians were wonderful. At San Jose Rep last night, "the joint was jumpin'."

Phenomenal production -- the actors and actresses were each very talented with strong stage presence. The music and dancing were very fun. Not only was I impressed, but the whole audience seemed to have a great time.

Wasn't sure what to expect but the voices and dancing of the people on stage was phenomenal! They really captured the time period and what terrific performers they are. I really like the venue as well. Smaller than a lot of other theaters but that made it ever the more intimate.

Description

At the height of the historic Harlem Renaissance, venues like The Cotton Club were jumpin’ to a new beat called “swing.” Ain’t Misbehavin’ is a rollicking, finger-snapping, toe-tapping, Tony Award-winning musical revue — a tribute to the black entertainers of the early 1900s that centers on the music of one of the most prolific musicians of the time, Thomas “Fats” Waller. Ain’t Misbehavin’ is vibrantly told with infectious energy and the cheeky humor for which Waller was known. Ain’t Misbehavin’ features 30 famous, high-energy tunes including the title song, “Honeysuckle Rose,” “Black and Blue” and “The Joint is Jumpin’.”
