Written on Jun 24 2011Lovely evening.
Written on Jun 23 2011What should have been so much better only had several memorable moments. We respect Whoopi for all her efforts and how she has been successful in going against the Hollywood grain. And she is an intelligent thoughtful woman and is better than the lowest common denominator jabs, particularly early in the show. Anthony Wiener and George Bush are easy but tired shots, let's move on and maybe discuss the media and their tired obsessions with these easy targets. Would love to have heard more about her efforts in the LGBT community. Sure she had her fawning fans but.... As the show rolled on, she discussed thing in the manner that we expected (interesting and poignant how she described her relationship with Elizabeth Hasselback -sp?. She didn't take the easy shot, she stressed how it was interesting to work with someone with decidedly different views and how she has learned from that-a fine lesson on tolerance and getting along with people). The whole evening could've been so much more.
Other items: sound could've been a little louder; ventilation a little better (of course SJ Civic has always had this issue).
Written on Jun 21 2011Loved it!!!
Written on Jun 21 2011Whoopi was funny. Great stuff!!!!
Written on Jun 20 2011what u c is what u get w/Ms. Goldberg. She isn't a phony & her views r what many of us think but never say out loud even 2 our friends/family. She can be funny & serious all at once. For me the time went by so fast. It's hard 2 believe that she had never been there b4. Those who missed it, missed a very comfortable evening.
Written on Jun 20 2011It was a fabulous evening, full of wisdom and common sense offered with laughter so that no one could be offended. Only complaint -- it was too short!
Written on Jun 20 2011Loved Whoopi!
Written on Jun 20 2011I really enjoyed the event.
Written on Jun 20 2011What a "FANTASTIC" evening.
Written on Jun 20 2011Whoopi is great. Her take on what is going on currently is terrific.
Written on Jun 20 2011Disappointing. First of all it was not possible to see Whoopie from our seats and second since we could only see her on the video screen it was just like watching her on the view. THe only difference is she could say four letter words which I thought was inappropiate since there were children there watching her who had performed. All in all it was like watching a stand up commedy act and not the quality of material I have heard at these functions in the past. She was etertaining however not all that interesting...could have saved money and watched a few days of the view instead. She oboviously did not think much of San Jose, ouch!
Written on Jun 20 2011Whoopie Goldberg was candid, funny, thoughtful, and thought provoking. I felt it was a worthwhile way to spend the evening and a great value for the money. Although our seats were in the balcony we had a good view of the stage. The only downside was that the Civic Auditorium seats were a bit cramped with very little leg room.
Written on Jun 20 2011Whoopi was as charismatic and witty as she is on The View. How fortunate for us to have heard her comedy routines and the thoughtful responses to audience questions. She was very good.
Written on Jun 20 2011My husband and I really enjoyed listening to Whoopi. I don't think I've heard my husband laugh that hard and that much in a long time. She was very witty and entertaining.
Written on Jun 20 2011Whoopi was good. The question and answer session that followed was not that intersting.
Written on Jun 20 2011The night was immensely entertaining. She made fun of herself and every other group. Her acceptance of gender, racial, education, political,
age, and social economic status issues was refreshing. Her humor and wit are sharp.
Written on Jun 20 2011Whoppie Goldberg did not disappoint. I've always loved her humor and her point of view and now that she's a "woman of a certain age," her insights into current affairs and human behavior laser through the BS while making us roar with laughter.
The venue on the other hand was not good. We sat in the balcony and were so packed in we literally could not move. I had to climb into my seat from the row behind because there wasn't enough room to walk around the people in our row, even when the stood. The orchestra section wouldn't have been better. It is a basketball court set up with folding chairs, so they are all on the same level. It would be difficult to see the stage.
Glad I saw Whoopi, but won't do the San Jose Civic ever again.
Written on Jun 20 2011What's not to like about Whoopi? The show was mostly a stand up comedy routine which I hoped it would be. She is intelligent, witty, and funny. I laughed a lot. And then the moderator had audience questions which were ok...
Written on Jun 20 2011I am between it was okay and I liked it. I have always admired Whoopi's talent and outlook. I was surprised she was defending smoking, which is of course her right but....
The basic "performance" was short, only 35 minutes, due to a fire alarm and evacuation. It seemed like she was not really wanting to be there. It was just a vibe I picked up.
Written on Jun 20 2011She was right on. Lots of laughs thruout. Thoroughly enjoyed!!!
Written on Jun 20 2011Whoopi is an interesting woman, and she is very funny. We enjoyed listening to her. The show was pretty short though. At the end the audience asked her questions. That part was not interesting. She stopped talking to answer the questions. It would have been better to let her talk for another 30 minutes.
