Tower of Power brings their original "Oakland style" soul music to San Jose along with co-headliners (and one of the greatest bands of all time), WAR. Tower of Power are celebrating more than 40 years of musical success, with a long list of hits, including "You're Still A Young Man," "So Very Hard To Go," "Soul With a Capital S" and many more. Joining them at City National Civic of San Jose (formerly San Jose Civic) are WAR, whose special blend of funk, rock, jazz and R&B has resulted in smash hit songs like "Low Rider" and "Why Can't We Be Friends?" and sales of more than 50 million records worldwide. With appearances everywhere from the videogame Grand Theft Auto San Andreas to the movie Boogie Nights, WAR's music has become a funky thread in the quilt of American pop culture. Learn More

What should have been so much better only had several memorable moments. We respect Whoopi for all her efforts and how she has been successful in going against the Hollywood grain. And she is an intelligent thoughtful woman and is better than the lowest common denominator jabs, particularly early in the show. Anthony Wiener and George Bush are easy but tired shots, let's move on and maybe discuss the media and their tired obsessions with these easy targets. Would love to have heard more about her efforts in the LGBT community. Sure she had her fawning fans but.... As the show rolled on, she discussed thing in the manner that we expected (interesting and poignant how she described her relationship with Elizabeth Hasselback -sp?. She didn't take the easy shot, she stressed how it was interesting to work with someone with decidedly different views and how she has learned from that-a fine lesson on tolerance and getting along with people). The whole evening could've been so much more.
Other items: sound could've been a little louder; ventilation a little better (of course SJ Civic has always had this issue).
Whoopi Goldberg has won the Oscar, the Tony, the Emmy, the Grammy, the Mark Twain Award for humor, and has been named a Living Landmark in New York City where she lives. Recently appearing as a permanent fixture on ABC's The View, Whoopi is known for her tireless humanitarian efforts on behalf of children, the homeless, human rights, substance abuse and the battle against AIDS. Whether serious or funny--Whoopi will touch your heart, and inspire you with her honesty and commitment
