Shady Shakespeare Theatre Company presents The Lion in Winter, James Goldman's historical play depicting the dysfunctional family of King Henry II. It's Christmas in the year 1183, and Henry has released his wife from her prison sentence for a visit with him and their three remaining sons, Richard, Geoffry and John. Also invited for the festivities is King Phillip II from France. He's the brother of the beautiful Alais, who is betrothed to Richard, but who has been Henry's mistress for some time. Sensing the awkwardness yet? Meanwhile, Henry realizes it's time to choose an heir to the throne from among his boys. He favors one, his wife prefers another, and everyone else has their own plans. The ensuing battle is marked by treachery, scandal and some of the sharpest dialogue ever seen on stage. Dinna Myers directs. Learn More

Highlights were the dancing and flamenco guitar. It was an intimate venue so all seats were great. The singing left a bit to be desired.Written on Sep 01 2010

The event was ok, but it was hot in the room which made me and my guests very sleepy. The MC was a little dull, but he gave good information.Written on Jun 14 2010

I didn't expect the first half to go so extensively into the student performance, but the second half with the professional dancers was fantastic! We really enjoyed it!Written on Apr 11 2009

great show, I loved it, the guitarist were really good, I enjoyed the dance very much so. Just wish they made it a bit more obvious when the end is coming, maybe get all the cast to come out together so we could cheer them up one more time.Written on Mar 14 2012
