Joy, sorrow, elation -- from the moment it was written, Mozart's music has inspired a host of emotions. Amadeus, the brilliant stage play by Sir Peter Shaffer, focuses on one response: jealousy. Travel back to the Austrian imperial court where the emperor's chosen composer, Antonio Salieri, reigns supreme until the arrival of a daring young talent, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Coarse, foul-mouthed and graceless, Mozart is everything that Salieri is not, including (of course) a genius. Awarded the Best Play Tony in 1981, Amadeus returns to the stage on the 30th anniversary of its Academy-Award-winning film adaption by Milos Forman. City Lights Theater Company presents this provocative and thrilling tale from the celebrated writer of Equus and Black Comedy. Learn More

Great job on the play, we really enjoyed the small theatre atmosphere and the actors did an awesome job in the performance. This was my first time to see Hamlet. The other three in the party had seen Hamlet previously, but were quite impressed with this rendition.
By William Shakespeare
Directed by Kit Wilder
One of the greatest plays by the world’s greatest playwright, Hamlet pits the white-hot rebellion of youth against the stale propriety of expectation and tradition. With his father the King of Denmark newly dead, and his mother the Queen newly married to his father’s usurping brother, young prince Hamlet is hurtled down a course of murder, discovery, and vengeance that strips him of love, of family, and of his own fragile identity. City Lights’ modern-day Hamlet is a contemporary psychological thriller – a hot-blooded look at how one young man battles a world of falsehood and condemnation.
