Adapted from John Steinbeck's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, The Grapes of Wrath is a heart-wrenching and ultimately moving tribute to the indomitable spirit of the American family. Frank Galati's soaring theatrical adaptation, which won the 1990 Tony Award for Best Play, brings the timeless story of the Joads and their flight from the devastating Oklahoma Dust Bowl to dramatic life. Fiercely proud, but reduced to poverty by the loss of their farm, Ma, young Tom Joad and their loved ones drive their battered old truck west toward California, hoping to find work and a better life, but instead are struck by the gut-wrenching realities of the Great Depression. About the Ticket Supplier: San Jose State University Theatre Arts
Theatre has been a dynamic force on SJSU’s campus since the earliest days of the university. The official Department of Theatre was established in 1928 with an emphasis on “dramatic study and stage craft…a field that stretches far and wide and is rich with possibilities.” Today, SJSU Theatre Arts emphasizes the contemporary role of theatre education: to prepare students to be active, inventive and disciplined performers working with a team to create something bigger than themselves.
