Description

This midsummer’s night, July 16 to be exact, marks the opening of Shakespeare Three Ways -- an evening of comedy inspired by the many aspects of Shakespeare, but in more modern language.

Get thee to the theatre! The Theatre on San Pedro Square plays host to Three of a Perfect Pair Theatre Troupe who will perform three one-act plays.

“This is an evening that is perfect for families at an affordable ticket price,” said Craig Engen, Managing Director, playwright and performer.

The characters are recognizable archetypes of aspects of our own natures:  noble, comic, twisted, exploitive -- and all too human.  The three one-acts are A Debt By Any Other Name is based upon Shakespearean insults, Love is Blind a love triangle and deals with Shakespeare’s language of love and lust, and Vaulting Ambition, which is based on the machinations of Shakespeare’s villains in which multiple characters are try to take  the crown in a maze of comic intrigue.

The first two pieces, A Debt by Any Other Name and Love is Blind, are directed by Linnea George and the third, Vaulting Ambition, is directed by Estelle Piper.

“I play the Rival Baron,” said Piper, who is also Artistic Director of Three of a Perfect Pair Theatre Troupe. “Yes, he’s a male character who’s sort of a 15th-century ‘wild and crazy guy’ whose laughably mangled English gets him into all kinds of scrapes.”

“Relationships and money are two grand themes that we all could use a little advice on,” noted George about A Debt By Any Other Name. Regarding Love Is Blind she added that “during our rehearsal process, we talked about the many reasons and ways people fall in love.”
