As much a cultural phenomenon as a theatrical event, Cats enjoyed a record-breaking run on Broadway and in London, thanks to its feline-inspired costumes, memorable songs by famed composer Andrew Lloyd Webber and fun character names like Grizabella and Rum Tum Tugger. Now the play is being brought to life by Children's Musical Theater San Jose, starring actors age 14 to 20. The story, inspired by a collection of poetry from T.S. Eliot, revolves around a tribe known as the Jellicle cats, and their leader Old Deuteronomy, who'll choose one of their group to be reborn that night after their annual ball. The longest-touring Broadway musical in history, Cats features 20 of Webber's timeless melodies, including the hit song "Memory," and was the winner of seven 1983 Tony Awards, including Best Musical. This was our first time seeing a live performance at the Retro Dome. The theater is quite small, which makes for a very cozy and intimate entertainment experience. The quality of the performance was very good - very talented individuals. We greatly enjoyed the piano and harp accompaniment. The songs, other than "Can You Remember" were not familiar to us and I must admit that I didn't find most of them to be very memorable. "Can You Remember" is playing over and over in my mind however, and probably will continue to for quite some time.

The play was very entertaining and amusing. All the actors were good and played their parts very well. I have to comment on the 'mute' who did an excellent job of always being 'in character.' His facial expressions were priceless! Loved it.

“Delightful!” —New York Times
Now playing at The Retro Dome, it’s The Fantasticks, the funny, romantic musical comedy about first love, lost love and – eventually – true love. A handsome narrator sets the scene for Matt and Luisa, teenagers who fall in love at first sight. What follows is a mix of hilarious comedy, wild adventure and gorgeous music. Winner of the Tony Honor for Excellence in the Theater, The Fantasticks includes the hit songs “Try To Remember” and “Soon It’s Gonna Rain” in a score as timeless as its story.
