A little slow and melodramatic. I slept through some of the first act. Not a must see. If you read the book or saw the movie dont bother. Acting was good, the "book" tiresome and over done.Written on Apr 27 2009
The seating was cramped and theatre was too warm. I think that part of the reason I fell asleep.

I attended this with my husband and two other couples. We were all very impressed by the play and agreed that it was much more effective, more emotionally gripping than the movie. The acting was also very good--particularly the main character/narrator and his father. We were also very pleased with our seats.Written on Apr 27 2009

I haven't read the book or watched the movie, but enjoyed the performance. I was able to follow the story even without knowing it beforehand, which isn't always the case when plays are adapted from books. If you're totally unfamiliar with the story, as I was, read the playbill beforehand. It gives a good backdrop on the story and the dynamic of the relationship between Amir and Hassan.Written on Apr 27 2009

Well done, and faithful to the book. My husband hadn't read the book, but found the story and performance gripping.Written on Apr 27 2009

Description

World Premiere!
Adapted for the stage by Matthew Spangler
Based on the novel by Khaled Hosseini
Directed by David Ira Goldstein
Adapted from the international best-seller, The Kite Runner is a haunting story of friendship and redemption in modern Afghanistan, from the pre-Russian-invasion glory days through the horrific reign of the Taliban. This eloquent tale is told through the lives of two boys growing up in Kabul in the same household, but in two starkly different worlds. Amir is the son of a wealthy yet emotionally distant businessman, while Hassan is the son of Amir’s father’s servant, a shunned ethnic minority. Despite the vast gulf in social positions, the two grow up inseparable until Amir and his father flee the country during the Soviet invasion. Years later, an emotionally crippled Amir returns to Afghanistan to seek out his old friend and atone for his youthful cowardice. But fate, global politics and historical tragedy threaten Amir’s ability to make amends for his past.
