Written on Dec 01 2010After seeing this the first time, I purchased tickets for some of my family
(ages 15 to ????) Great show for all ages.
Written on Oct 29 2010Nice cozy theater so everyone has a pretty good seat. Our seats were pretty close the the stage which was a nice surprise. However, I will point out that this was my second visit to this venue and both times I noticed how uncomfortably warm it was. It was way too hot and it really detracted from my enjoyment of the plays each time.
That being said La Cage Aux Folles play started off a little bit slow, but if you are patient through the first couple of acts, it really starts to come into its own and was quite enjoyable. I really got into it after that and everyone in my group enjoyed it too. There's a a tiny bit of audience involvement, which made it kind of fun too.
Written on Sep 30 2010Love this show and have seen it more than a few times. I thought this production was very good. Ray Mendonca was wonderful. I last saw him as Roger DeBris in "The Producers" and while he borrowed some of the camp from that role, he made Albin his own. Excellent costumes and sets, very impressed. My only complaint in an otherwise very enjoyable evening of dining out and theater was that the San Mateo Performing Arts Center was roasting, a sauna. Several of us commented to the ushers at intermission to get the a/c on. I can't imagine what the temperature must have been like on stage under the lights and in costumes. Hopefully when BBtB moves to the Fox in Redwood City next season this one particular problem will be eliminated.
