Violinist Elizabeth Pitcairn performs with one of the world's most legendary instruments, the Red Mendelssohn Stradivarius of 1720, the inspiration of the Academy Award-winning film The Red Violin. The violin was purchased for Pitcairn by her grandfather on her 16th birthday for $1.7 million. It is known for its red color, which has inspired mystery and speculation throughout the years. As part of the program, Pitcairn will perform the "Red Violin Chaconne," originally composed for the film.
