Written on Sep 24 2012Probably one of the MOST amateurish performances I've ever attended (sorry, guys)! I didn't hear ONE song sung with a chord in it and there weren't many who could sing to begin with. This troope needs serious vocal training if they're going to perform musicals. The choreography was simply terrible, jerky and amateurish and we actually felt sorry for them.
The seating (although comfortable) is badly designed as they've placed each row of seats directly behind the others instead of being offset so you have no choice but to try and lean to one side or the other in order to see the stage. Who does that?
Sorry, but unless this group receives better direction, acting coaches and, moreso, voice leadership and teaching, we'll not be attending anything here in the future.
Written on Jul 09 2012Seems to be more of a children's theater workshop than a community theater, with kids doing many adult roles. Have to say, this show may have been a bit too ambitious for this company to pull off. I gave them two stars for gumption. Using the canned score meant the leading man was singing out of his range. Mayor Shin was the standout, along with Mrs. Shin. Also, they had no record of our Goldstar purchase, but did honor our receipt. Had to sit on folding chairs with a limited view, since they were sold out.
Written on Jul 09 2012Great venue: very comfortable and truly not a bad seat in the house. Professional set and lighting. Yummy HUGE brownies. There were times when it was difficult to make out what Professor Hill was singing....don't know if a mic would have helped, or if the song was just such a fast tempo that it was difficult to catch all the words. All the singing and acting was great. A very fun evening!
Written on Jul 06 2012Pleasantly surprised! We heard from friends who went earlier and said it was so awful that they walked out at Intermission. But we went anyway, and glad we did. I'm guessing that the quality of the performance is highly dependent on which actors are playing the lead roles. On the evening we went, "Professor Hill" was lacking - he never really seemed to get into the role, and was not at all comfortable in it. But the other actors were all very-good-to-excellent, as was the singing - so overall it was a very enjoyable production. (One thing I do agree with ... the theatre was almost unbearably hot! - turn on the A/C or open a door, plz)
