For years, scientists have been concerned with the extreme weather conditions – hurricanes, droughts, and heat waves leaving little doubt that our planet has reached a global climatic tipping point. Glaciers are melting at a rate ten times faster than previously thought and atmospheric gases have reached unprecedented levels.

Flannery, one of the worlds pioneering paleontologist and biologist offers a sobering history of global climate change citing the possibility of as much as 95% of all species being on the brink of extinction. He is especially critical of the U.S. and his own home country of Australia with regards to energy consumption and leads a highly skeptical charge against the automotive and petrochemical industries’ plan for a gradual transition into a “hydrogen economy”. Flannery cites that in order for our Earth’s climate to stabilize we would need to reduce our carbon dioxide emissions by at least 70% by 2050.
