Very small venue - most of the comedians were funny - and some were very funny.
2 of the 6 comedians were hysterical, I had a laughing jag, tears were rolling down my face. 2 were funny (they had a warped sense of humor, but I understood them), and 2 were so-so. I would go again.

surprisingly good show...i'm sure the comedians vary from show-to-show, but this night the opening acts were decent, but the headliners were solid and made the show worth the time...

It was fun ! most especially the last comic. No drink minimum... how I wish that there were more people in the audience. I luv the host!

the in-beteen-guy was weak, as were some of the firs comedians, there was one woman and she was hilarious, and the two last ones just kept everybody laughing, worth checking it out

The last performer Duane Perkins saved the show. It was good times overall. Started out with an intimate audience of 8 and ended with about 20 people. (Take into consideration it was a rainy Sat nite though)

we heard lots of crickets in the room and there were
about 6 people there, but still got many good laughs in.

There atleast 10 comedians giving their performances. 4 out of 10 comedians are actually funny. There are only two females and mostly men. Karen is the most funniest female comedian I've ever met. She's quite a natural. The host, the guy with glasses in a silky kind of expensive suit, and the last comedian are the funniest men in the group.
The rest are just plain boring or whose jokes I don't get. For $9 bucks, it's not bad to spend a Friday or weekend night with friends. No drinks minimum unlike other comedy place out there. The venue is theater like scene, but very small. There atleast 4 aisle on each sides of the room and per aisle about 7 to 10 seats. The playhouse is not crowded at all. So, if you decided to come with friends or in groups, you'll most likely to find a seat next to each other. Make sure to get there atleast 20 mins before showtime.
It was fun! Recommend to anyone out there who's got sense of humor in them.

This is the worst stand-up comedy showcase I've ever been to. The comedians (with the exception of one who's material was just ok) weren't funny at all. It was so bad that some people walked out of the theatre during the middle of it. Some people were so bored that they were just talking among themselves, not paying attention to the comedians. This, in itself, was rude to the comics as well as to those of us who were trying to listen to their lousy jokes. The place itself was dead. One of the comics, who apparently also runs the theatre, was out on the Promenade trying to convince people to come on in and check them out. I now know why they can't get a full audience. It's amazing to hear that these people have been featured on shows like Letterman, Leno, Jimmy Kimmel and Comedy Central. How do they get to perform on these shows when their material is terrible? The only thing that I liked was that it's a smaller facility (has about 50 seats) which makes it for a more intimate experience and the fact that there's no drink minimum. However, I should've had more than one drink that night (11/29/08) to help me endure the pain more.
You should definitely skip this unfunny showcase. Even the Downtown Comedy Club in Los Angeles (which is a terrible facility to have an audience listening to stand-up comedy) has funnier comedians. Stick with some of the other places that Goldstar offers tickets through here.

Refreshing for a big city, this is a small theater that is very personal. The comedians were good I think there were 6 differen ones. Some of the comedians were better than others but overall it was a good time. I would go again definatley.

It was a small venue run by the comedians themselves. There was no drink minimum. It was very casual. It lasted two hours with a new comic about every fifteen minutes. All but two of them were funny. There was one comedian in general that kept us laughing non-stop. It was worth every penny.

The event entailed 6 comedians and 4 out of the 2 were great. The setting was casual and the seating was comfortable. They also had
beer and wine available. Drinks, comfort, and laughter- what more could you ask for! This is a great place to take family and friends visiting.

The majority of the performers were very funny. I've been to other comedy clubs and sometimes you are very lucky if 1 or 2 people are funny out of 5 or 6 who are bad.

A nice variety of comic styles. Very down to earth and personable. A fun evening.

This event was so much fun. There were maybe 7 comics and almost all of them were very funny! Drinks were cheap and the staff very friendly. It was convenient for us because we live in Santa Monica.. but it's easy to combine with an evening strolling the Promenade or Pier for anyone looking for an evening out. We'll definately be going back!

The comedians were great! =)

The comedians cracked us up. We will definitely be returning! Thanks

My Mom and I attended last night. The Comedians were all fantastic! We laughed from beginning to end. Don't miss out on this show!

NICE , SMALL AND PERSONAL VENUE, WE ENJOYED IT VERY MUCH, I WOULD RECOMMEND IT TO MY FRIENDS

The show was great--especially Mo Mandel!

fun, lowkey vibe...

Some good comedians, some very good! Not a fancy establishment (not what we were looking for, nor expecting - just as a note), but good, fun evening's entertainment. Exceeded expectations and we will be going back again, with friends. Recommend.

I had an amazing time...and on a budget too!
We had pretty low expectations going in, and was sure we'd be the only 3 people in the tiny venue, but once the show got started, the entire playhouse was packed and they proceeded to march 1 comedian out after another. After a day of shopping and walking (and walking some more), unwinding with 2 straight hours of comedy was the best thing for my feeties and my soul. Because the playhouse was small, it was a very intimate experience and no drink minimum...I would (and been) recommending this show to everyone.
I'll definitely be back!

It was a funny show
i would go again

small comedy show in the heart of 3rd st promenade in Santa Monica - Cheap & Fun! This was a more intimate experience then say - laugh factory or comedy store, but just as great. Awesome comedians - very cheap mini bar ($3 glass of wine - although it was charles shaw, $3 bud light) and is 18+ venue. loved it

Had a great time. I like that it is a small and intimate playhouse. Almost feels like a very exclusive performance.

WOW what a deal for a fun night out. Tickets are cheap, drinks are even cheaper. Comedians were funny and made themselves available after the show which we thought was a nice touch. Thanks for the laughs guys and girls we are coming back for sure.
Best Regards the British crowd

Very, very good for the money....5 of the 7 folks were excellent...with a couple great!
Would do it again!

Lots of fun!! Comedians were great and as good as any places I have been, ie., the improv, the comedy store, the ice house, etc., etc.
We'll be back!!

my friends and i enjoyed the comedy hour or so tremendously. We will be back in the future.

Diamond in the Rough. It is on third street not many people seem to know about it and it is a find. The comedians are top notch. We happen to go on a Friday night. there is no min drink so you are not disturbed by waiters the whole time. It is small and you do not feel congested at all. it is a relaxed atmosphere so you can just relax after a long week. Better than most known comedy places. a MUST go

A wide variety of comics in a small (50 seat) venue. Not very well attended but fun nevertheless.

Six comedians....2 were fair, 2 were really good and 2 were great! Worth every penny!

Cute little theater on 3rd Street. Good comedy for the price and no two drink minimum. A good alternative to the Improv and Comedy Store.

This was a good time. The talent was very good for such a small venue. Easy to plan dinner around the promenade and attend the show after.

Some very funny comedians and a few not so funny. Overall enjoyed it.

I really liked this experience, but it was so hot inside the venue. Bring a short sleeved shirt!!

Small venue; the last two comedians were good as was the emcee. Definelty an intimate setting.

The comedians were good (some of them needed notecards to remember jokes, but it was still really good). Good location. The audience was full (but some of the comedians invited thier own guests who got in for free)

Great place to find FRESH new comedy. Beware, the comedians do try out new material. We thought it was great and like the intimate atmosphere.

Just Awful. Not in the least bit funny. I suppose that they have different "entertainment" each time but the ones that we saw were not good at all. There were 21 people in the audience. All young except for my husband and I and our 2 friends. Some laughed at the references to drug use....I do not find that amusing. We are liberal and don't mind "language" but it was definately not comedy. We went to an improve he night before...Put on by The "Rookie Class". These kids were good. Sayurday night was a pure waste of time.
enjoyabke.

Some comics slow and trying our new or unknown material. Some very funny, overall and enjoyable evening.

Fair experience....pretty runty theater of about 40 seats. Occasionally funny comedians working on their chops. Gotta start somewhere I guess.

Entertaining evening. Some comedians better than others. Did not really like those who had crude jokes.

I had a fun evening. Some comics not as funny as others, some hilarious though. There was no drink minimum which was great and 10 comedians to entertain us. The audience size was small maybe about 30 people all toghether once the evening went on. For the price it was well worth it.

This is very small venue, but the comics were very entertaining. There is a good chance you will be part of a joke or the person sitting beside will, you're very close to the stage wherever you sit.

1/2 of the comedians were moderately funny, 1/4 were hilarious and 1/4 were awful!!!!!! so i guess you could say it was a balanced show. even the sucky comedians made me laugh because they were soooo bad. it was eorth it though.

Small venue. There were 4 comedians, 2 of them were funny. The other 2 not so much, but I'm sure it's hit or miss.

This was a great event. All of the comedians were very funny. It is a very small theatre (kinda low budget) but the comedians were great. We went to the improv the week before, paid alot more, and did not laugh nearly as much. I will definitely go again!

This was the most horrible comedy show I've ever been to. There was ONE funny person, and the rest were so not funny that I wanted to slit my wrists. I would have left early but that there were other guests blocking the path and I didn't want to disturb them. The Improv would be your better bet. Or ANY other venue for that matter. I went with my husband and he felt the same.

My husband and I wanted a little night out for ourselves. First, We love gold star, we think that gold star really is a great tool to find things to do at reasonable prices. The third street promenade playhouse is a little hard to find in the mist of the promenade, they need some signage that helps people find it. We had a great time the comedy was good. We were 2 out of seven people in the audience, tough for comics but they pulled through. Great night out, we will continue to use the goldstar, and we would return to the 3rd street promenade(with friends) for some more comedy in the future.

Like any comedy show, some comedians are really funny, some are just not. Some stupid, some are intelligent, some are just boring. Most at this show were entertaining. There was a couple who put us to sleep. I would go back again because you just never know who will be there and who will be funny. They did sell drinks; water, wine, beer. The red wine is 2buck chuck from Trader Joes. That was funny.

We saw 5 or 6 comics and 3 of them were funny. It's a little awkward when the comic bombed because it is a small venue, but i would go back.

It had its moments. Some of the comics were pretty funny but the ones that were not funny were REALLY not funny, it was pretty sad seeing them up there and no one laughing.... all in all its more than I expected for the $9 ticket price and the people running it were the actual comics performing so they were very grateful just to have an audience.

6 comedians, 2 were passable, 2 absolutely not funny,2 inbetween passable and bad-very disappointed!

The comedians were extremely dry...the host was annoying, kept making extremely sexual comments. We left half way thru the show..couldnt take it anymore !! Would not go to the show again even if I got free tickets !!

The theater itself is very small and quaint... good for stand-up comedy, but unfortunately, there were very few laughs. There were about 7 comedians and at least half of them either were having an off night or just seemed somewhat amateur and nervous. The price of the ticket is cheap enough that if you go to just get out of the house and have a chuckle here and there, then ok... but otherwise, I would save up for the bigger comedy houses of LA.

they just weren't funny, some were in very poor taste..don't think i'd ever go back there

One out of six guys was mildly funny. It wasn't worth it.
