From the creators of the Amazing Los Angeles Race comes the Amazing Santa Monica Race, the same concept as its L.A. counterpart but with a coastal twist. Part sightseeing tour, part scavenger hunt, the race sends teams of two to eight people to explore the Santa Monica Pier, the Venice Boardwalk and numerous other sights looking for clues. The day ends with a fun awards ceremony that includes snacks and beverages for all participants.

If you are into arcane, oblique type mind games this may be the ticket for you. We were, up to a point, but the edge or thrill of navigating ourselves around Santa Monica and Venice was actually detracted from by the clues. I suggested my 20 year old son and 16 year old daughter go with me on this jaunt for Fathers Day...it would be fun. It was up to a point. The pursuit portion adds a dimension to just plan walking around Venice and Santa Monica again and made that activity fun. That's gotten to be a tired old activity and I knew the shift in viewpoint would make the outing more enjoyable...and it did, that's why I gave it the 3 stars. But the clues and the organization of the activity took away from the experience. At the end it was way more interesting to just go have lunch and enjoy the activities and shopping on the 3rd Street Promenade than to make our way back to the finish line. Thank God for Goldstar, had I paid full price for this I would have been arguing for a refund.Written on Jun 20 2011

I loved it! I had a sibling visiting from out of town, and this was the most fun we had all weekend. "Let's face it," she said, "the LACMA was cool, but this was awesome!" We finished in second place... we are a competitive family. We worked hard to get 2nd place too. On the way home we couldnt stop talking about what we should have done to win and where we went wrong.Written on Apr 05 2011
The race starts at the beach which can be accessed by street parking if you don't mind walking, but I suggest just paying for beach parking ($8)because at the end of the race you will be considering calling a taxi to get to your car because you will be pretty exhuasted. Winners and losers get 2 drinks (beers or soda), and chips and salsa for free at the end. We spent this time recapping the day with our competitors, sharing what we struggled on and what was easy.
The clues and puzzles came in all different forms. Sometimes, actual people were our clues, making the race very challenging at times.
Bring, sunblock, water, snacks, sunglasses, comfortable clothes and shoes. A backpack is also useful to hold cell phones and clues.

It's the same great concept with a Santa Monica/Venice Beach twist. Part sightseeing tour, part scavenger hunt, and all fun, the Amazing Santa Monica Race is the most unique way to experience Santa Monica's historic pier, Venice's funky boardwalk, and everything in between.
Participants form teams of 2–8 people. They meet at a common location and receive the first of a bunch of devious clues. Solving the clue leads to the next location and the next clue, and so on. The day ends with an award ceremony that includes snacks and beverages for all participants.
