Wild, bawdy and ferociously playful, Joe Orton's outrageous farce What the Butler Saw is one of the seminal works of modern comedy. When a psychiatrist tries to seduce an aspiring secretary, his botched efforts lead to comic bedlam involving his insatiable wife, a randy bellhop, a befuddled police officer and Sir Winston Churchill. Psychiatry, religion, marriage, government, definitions of gender and even language are all targets of British playwright Orton's poison pen. His sly jokes and hilarious shenanigans will have you shaking with laughter from start to finish. Learn More

Written on Mar 03 2009The set was great. I had a enjoyable time.
Written on Feb 17 2009It's been a long time since I laughed this much. The evening was very enjoyable, and I recommend this show to everyone, regardless of their faith or ethnic background. After all, don't parents want the best for their children? And don't children try to please their parents, feeling guilty when they don't? This is not just a Jewish thing. The casting was superb, reminded me of members of my own family. Joanna Churgin and Jack Winnick were marvelous, as usual, as the parents. Matt Landig played the role of Bob/David to perfection, and JP Sarro was great as brother Joel. The lead, Sarah, was a little over the top, she could have been toned down a bit, but kept the story moving at a good pace. Great!!!
Written on Feb 17 2009I had already seen this show before. The actors were great, the sets were great and the directing was great. It was finally nice to have "assigned" seating
Written on Feb 17 2009Very enjoyable play. Good dialogue, funny and quite entertaining. Theatre holds about 250 seats, we were in the last row and the view was excellet.
Written on Feb 16 2009I THOUGHT IT WAS A GOOD SHOW. VERY WELL ACTED AND QUITE A LOT OF LAUGHS.
Written on Feb 16 2009It was very entertaining and cast did a wonderful job. I really loved it.
Written on Feb 16 2009I thought it was funny. The only character or actor that I didn't think was all that great was the female lead. I couldn't tell if she was forgetting her lines, or her timing was off. I guess it could been the way she was portraying the character;if that is the case, then it didn't work.
Written on Feb 16 2009Had a wonderful time. Enjoyed the show. Laughed and laughed. Acting good. My favorite was the hired boyfriend. Loved the theatre. First time there. Not a bad seat in the house.
Written on Feb 16 2009Enjoyable, If you are not Jewish a lot will not be ubderstood.I fely yhat the stereotypes were a bit much.
Written on Feb 15 2009Wery nice, funny. Well played. Time well spent.
Written on Feb 14 2009Absolutely hysterical! This show had me laughing like I was watching my favorite sitcom. All the characters did a fantastic job- each carrying their own dose of laughter. Tali Blankfeld ("Sarah") did a wonderful job- she was in every scene as the lead and was the "glue" that brought and held all the characters together. I think she did very well as the only character who really went through an emotional awakening in the play. Very talented cast!
Written on Feb 11 2009I laughed so hard I cried! This play is especially funny if you are Jewish because you will get all of the jokes and references. It also has a great message at the end about relationships between parents and their children. Overall, this was a hilarious production and you need to see it if you are Jewish!!!
Written on Feb 09 2009This show was alot of fun. I found myself laughing out loud several times. The characters were believable and I was living each scene with them. Well done!
Written on Feb 09 2009Excellent show with good character development and spectacular elements of humor. The actor who played Bob / David was outstanding and should be on his way to a wonderful career in theater! Thank you for a wonderful evening of theater!!
Written on Feb 09 2009Great show! Having never heard of the story before, this play had me laughing out loud in almost every scene. While the storyline is exciting, the acting really stood out and created a lively atmosphere that was very engaging. Matt Landig ("Bob") stole many scenes and was over-the-top in good way. JP Sarro ("Joel"- the brother) also did a great job with his role, especially when he puts all the clues together and outs his sister on her clever scheme. Tali Blankfeld ("Sarah") did a magnificent job of carrying each scene without taking too much away from the supporting characters. She had her hilarious moments, but was the only character to really go through the entire whirlwind of emotions- shock, anticipation, happy, sad, etc.
I enjoyed this play so much that I plan on seeing it again before it is done.
Written on Feb 09 2009It was entertaining and well acted. The subject and some of the references were outdated. It helps to know about Jewish culture and holidays, but it is not necessary. It was funny, and more so in the second half. Overall, it was enjoyable.
Written on Feb 09 2009A wonderful performance and a great laugh! Highly recommended for all.
Written on Feb 09 2009Very entertaining with great humor.
Written on Feb 09 2009It was very cute.
Written on Feb 09 2009JP Sarro had not yet outdone himself...until he was cast in Beau Jest. Gird your loins, ladies and gentleman. Not since Vince McMahon's turn as a wrestler in 2009's WWF: Raw is War has such a heavyweight stepped in front of the footlights. Flawless direction and stage design encapsulate the milieu of the story, seamlessly drawing the audience into the mis-en-scene like a moth to a flame. Fear not, your money will be well-spent watching Beau Jest. Catch Sarro before he blows away the proscenium surrounding theater as we know it!
Written on Feb 09 2009My 3 BFFs and I treated ourselves to an afternoon theatre experience with "Beau Jest". We laughed so much, and related to a lot of the storyline. With a beautiful set design, and great seats (3rd row, center), we felt as though we were part of the family! A lot of Jewish humor so it helps to be Jewish or no someone who is! Only two more shows -- don't miss it!
Written on Feb 09 2009The theatre is very intimate, and so, without a bad seat in the house. I sat in the third row with my GS tickets and nearly felt like I was in the living room with the actors. It was wonderful!
As for the quality of the acting, it was quite good, although the woman who played Sarah was a bit of an over-actor. The gentleman who played David seemed stiff as the performance began, and then warmed to the role.
The audience laughed heartily in all the right places. All in all, it was a very enjoyable afternoon.
One note of caution, the Buddhists next door are not very centered (I guess) and FREAK OUT if you park in their lot. Even though they are closed, they have a man there who watches for stray parkers and they will tow you!
Written on Feb 09 2009FABULOUS. VERY FUNNY, A DO NOT MISS PLAY
Written on Feb 09 2009Light entertainment, somewhat enjoyable, with a few laughs. I thought it was predictable and a little forced, and the performances were a bit exaggerated, but the person I'd brought to see it, who was visiting from out of town, enjoyed it and had a good time, so it worked.
Written on Feb 09 2009Plenty of laughs. Nice venue. Will probably appeal more and better understood by Jewish audience. A nice way to spend part of the Sunday as an alternative to movie theater.
Written on Feb 09 2009Thoroughly enjoyable, and great venue!
Written on Feb 04 2009Very average performances by amateur actors/actresses. Do not recommend.
Written on Feb 02 2009very entertaining evening.....would recommend this show to friends...great price, nice little community theater.
Written on Feb 02 2009it's sheer entertainment, we had a fun afternoon.
Written on Feb 02 2009I was absolutely delighted with this performance. It's funny, it's entertaining, it hits home!!!
Told many friends and family not to miss it. Highly recommended!!
Written on Feb 02 2009Very cute and light-hearted. Would definitely recommend.
Written on Feb 02 2009We thoroughly enjoyed this play. You couldn't help smiling through the entire show. The cast was superb.
We have only one negative comment. We missed some of the dialogue, especially when the first boy friend spoke. He spoke VERY softly and couldn't be heard on the left side of the theater where we sat. When the cast was on the sofa (right)we again couldn't hear them. We asked some other patrons and they all agreed.
Written on Feb 01 2009I brought a group of friends to see the show and we all enjoyed it. Everyone came from a diverse background, but we still related well to the main character of the play. It was funny. The setting was quite intimate. And the actors and actresses did an amazing job. One of the best acting I've seen in a long time. I definitely want to head back to this theatre for another show.
Written on Jan 28 2009Very well done, although somewhat predictable. Would have liked more of a surprise ending. Definitely helps to be Jewish to get much of the humor, but seemingly enjoyed by all (maybe everyone there was Jewish!)
Written on Jan 27 2009Very enjoyable show. Well directed and well acted!
Written on Jan 26 2009Loved this show-- It was one of the best!
Written on Jan 26 2009The theater was intimate; no bad seats to speak of.
The play was very entertaining. Great performances by Joanna Churgin and Jack Winnick. Bravo!
A fantastic event for a lazy Sunday afternoon.
Written on Jan 26 2009Enjoyable evening out with plenty of over the top comedy. Loved that she was making PIE!!
Written on Jan 26 2009Beau Jest was a great show with a fun storyline played by talented actors. Even though I myself am not Jewish, I found most of the jokes hilarious. Bob/David did a terrific job and his persona skillfully changed as his character developed throughout the piece. In terms of storyline, I would have liked to see a bit more complexity with how the lead's choices affected those around her, as well as a few Christian-based jokes for Bob/David to skillfully mask. The set design was perfect. The use of sound could have been a little better. In terms of the theater itself, the seats were quite comfortable, despite a sold out show.
Written on Jan 21 2009Really liked the theater, very cute story!
Written on Jan 19 2009My girlfriend and I both enjoyed the play.
On a scale of 1-10 (10 being South Pacific in NYC this year), I would give it 6+.
The father was terrrific and the author could have witnessed my parents holding a "discussion".
The Morgan theatre is cozy with about 100 seats. The atmosphere is friendly. All the seat have a good view of the stage.
Written on Jan 19 2009If you're in the mood for a gentle comedy with a few chuckles, interesting characters and have a jewish ear, this is for you. Nice theater, just watch out for the canes and walkers.
Written on Jan 19 2009The writer, director and actors took this funny concept and turned it into hilarious. No matter your beliefs, you'll see the humor in a daughter trying to please her parents. All actors did a great job - not over-reaching, so their characters are believable. Matt Landing (Bob, the actor boyfriend) will bring you heavy doses of laughter.
The theatre is small and casual. Our seats were exact center and the perfect distance from the stage. But the theater is small enough that any seat would be decent. Recommended for an evening of light entertainment.
Written on Jan 18 2009I loved this play. It was hysterical and touching (mostly hysterical)and i'm not Jewish. The theatre was very nice as well. I would gladly see another play here. I'd recommend this to all, very fun night.
