Two contemporary Italian films (with English subtitles) make their Los Angeles area debuts in this double-feature screening at Santa Monica's historic Aero Theatre. First up is Chill (Scialla!</>), writer Francesco Bruni's charmingly funny and endlessly crowd-pleasing directorial debut. Fabrizio Bentivoglio (the Family Friend) stars as an apathetic retired schoolteacher whose life is thrown off-kilter when he discovers he has a 15-year-old son. On second, Love & Slaps (La Bellezza Del Somaro), is actor-director Sergio Castellito's (Don't Move) romp-like farce of aging and family dynamics. It centers on a mid-life architect and his psychologist wife, their daughter Rosa, and her new boyfriend, who's far older than her dad. Actress Lidia Vitale, who appears in the film, is scheduled to speak between the screenings.
