Description
Simone Forti, along with Terrence Luke Johnson, Sarah Swenson, Douglas Wadle, and dramaturg Kristen Smiarowski present a whimsical, thoughtful dance/theater work that explores the art of conversation through a variety of structures and scores.
With over 150 years of combined experience with improvisation, this premier Los Angeles dance/theater ensemble returns to Highways to approach meaning by interweaving structured conversation, furniture, dance, and projections of calligraphic deconstruction. With the art of conversation as its center, the process of building the piece involved each member of the group contributing a unique score or approach, and the group collaboratively weaving these into a dynamic whole.
Simone Forti is an internationally acclaimed artist working in dance/theater and writing. She is the recipient of a 2005 Guggenheim Fellowship in dance and a 2003 Lifetime Achievement Award from the Dance Resource Center of Los Angeles, acknowledging her years of innovation including her influence on the historical Judson Dance Theater Group. In 2001, The New Yorker called Forti “the liveliest of the original mavericks of postmodern dance.“
