Description
At Highways, 6 Degrees unites Dandelion Dancetheater with Choreographers Sue Roginski and Won-Sun Choi. Dandelion, Roginski and Choi will also each bring along another artist or group that they are inspired by--creating a matrix of 6 artists, some of who know each other, and some who will be meeting that day for the first time. The first half of the evening will feature five-minute pieces created by each of the six participants, followed by a second half that is an interdisciplinary swirl of multiple forms, styles, communities and approaches to performance-making directed by Eric Kupers. Kupers has been engaged in intensive research over the past decade into a collision of experimental performance forms that breaks down mainstream ideas about beauty, virtuosity, entertainment and the separation of audience and performers. He and his interdisciplinary Dandelion ensemble will bring a collection of new performance nuggets that they have been developing over the past year and use them as building blocks of a structure that will bring forth the unique perspectives of all participating 6 Degrees artists and create something much larger than the sum of its parts.
6 Degrees is the first cycle of a long-term project Dandelion is spearheading to forge connections between disparate strains of the experimental performance community in California. It is supported by a grant from the California Ensemble Touring Initiative, a project of the Network of Ensemble Theaters and FoolsFURY. The next step for "6 Degrees" will be a similarly formatted community dance show in Sacramento this November, and then additional performances in cities across California over the next few years. About the Ticket Supplier: Highways Performance Space
Highways Performance Space is Southern California's boldest center for new performance. Founded in 1989, Highways continues to be an important alternative cultural center in Los Angeles that encourages fierce new artists from diverse communities to develop and present innovative works.
Highways promotes the development of contemporary socially involved artists and art forms.
