Performance artists Ian MacKinnon and Clint Steinhauser team up to get more gay! In a world that demands assimilation, Clint and Ian hop off the bus to visit sights that may have been missed or forgotten in our mad rush for acceptance. Using movement, spoken word, video and sound collage, memories, dreams, erections, reflections, myth, magic, and hist-orgies converge into a transcendent queer vision of the future. Including a cast of fabulous local artists.
Ian MacKinnon is a gay-centered performance artist and curator of queer theatre events in LA. He has toured shows to NY, SF, SD, and more. He was also nominated for a GLAAD Media award for best off off broadway performance and he also runs the undead glitter art-rock collective The Discount Cruise to Hell.
Clint Steinhauser originally trained as a figure skater and toured with the likes of Dorothy Hamill before shifting his artistic focus to theatrical performance. He was a member the Invisible Theater for 7 years, as well as a founding member of The Fauve Conspiracy and is a long time student of legendary performance artist, Rachel Rosenthal.
Highways Performance Space is Southern California's boldest center for new performance. Founded in 1989, Highways continues to be an important alternative cultural center in Los Angeles that encourages fierce new artists from diverse communities to develop and present innovative works. Highways promotes the development of contemporary socially involved artists and art forms. Our mission is implemented through four programs (the performance space, workshop/university program and two galleries). Annually, Highways co-presents approximately 250 performances by solo dramatic artists, small theater groups, dance companies and spoken word artists; curates and exhibits approximately 12 contemporary visual art exhibits per year with work that explores the boundaries between performing and visual art forms; commissions and premieres new work by outstanding performing artists; organize special events, curate festival, offer residency and educational programs that engage community members in the arts while providing access to professionally-directed instruction.
