The critically-acclaimed Ruskin Group Theatre Company presents a limited run of Tony Award-winning playwright Martin McDonagh's The Lonesome West, a violent black comedy of brotherly love set among the belligerent neighbors of the Western Ireland town of Leenane. An idealistic young man stumbles into the brothers' simmering conflict, as they enact an endless cycle of petty grudges. He eventually puts his life on the line in an attempt to reconcile the feuding siblings. Nominated for the Tony Award for Best Play, The Lonesome West concludes McDonagh's Connemara trilogy. What a terrific ensemble of actors! They each took "risks" as actors with their emotions. Nothing false or "cardboard". Great script and directing as well. Wonderful experience!Written on Nov 02 2009

This is a play written early in John Patrick Shanley's career. If you are a fan - as we are -of his work, the first act will be a fine example of his great talent as a dialogue writer. The second act is rather sophomoric, delivering its message in a heavy handed manner. In later work, as Shanley's writing matures, the complex morality lessons are presented in a more nuanced style. The acting is top notch and the venue could not be more cozy. We wondered how The Ruskin Theater had eluded us in the past and plan to attend more events there.Written on Nov 03 2009

I can't believe we've never been to this gem of a theatre....very friendly folks, a topnotch play with marvelous actors..and best of all, it was a breeze to get to, and the parking was free! The nearby Spitfire Grill was a great spot for yummy, reasonably priced happy hour treats. It was a fun, and very affordable evening out on the town! Thanks Goldstar for introducing us, once again, to the best that LA has to offer...Written on Jan 12 2010

Description
Ruskin Group Theatre proudly presents a comedy that knows “the greatest, the only, success is to be able to love,” created by story teller John Patrick Shanley (whose work has garnered a Tony Award, an Academy Award, and the Pulitzer Prize). Huey and Aldo are two passionate men, who have been best friends their whole lives. Unwittingly, they set out to conquer love. It quickly becomes clear that they must first prove their manhood and reconcile with their past... through a “vampire vulture monster fiend” that Huey once married.
