Set in the nightclub of a small, backwater town somewhere South of the Border, El Grande De Coca Cola is a hilarious look at small-town life and big-time entertainment. Pepe Hernandez boasts in the local press that he's bringing a group of international cabaret stars to town, thanks to help of his uncle, the manager of the local Coca-Cola bottling plant. But when Pepe's plans don't exactly come together, his "Parade of the Stars" has a different look. Don't miss this timeless comedy that has been entertaining audiences for more than 30 years! Run, don't walk , to this ab-fab show. The Ruskin has another hit on it's hands, as this very dark play holds your attention throughout, and keeps you on the edge of your seat. Acting was superior, with Zach Book and Chris Mulkey doing their finest work. Jaimi Paige, who I had seen in The Collector here at the Ruskin, played another complicated and haunting role. I can't say enough about this so real, explosive, sad family story about lives in rural Appalachia (although it could be anywhere). Kudos to all connected with it!!
A Southern Gothic tale of one family, trapped by its own tradition. The obsession with an American icon brings hope of salvation for them, as they continue to invest in the dream that American pop culture promises. Helmed by award-winning director Karen Landry and starring veteran TV and film actor Chris Mulkey, as well as Jaimi Paige, Robert Mollohan, Kathleen Parker and Zach Book, Jesse Boy is a world premiere sure to make an imprint on the Los Angeles theatre scene.
