Katrina Lenk, the acclaimed star of the rock opera Lovelace, visits Highways Performance as her alter-ego moxy phinx in The Wanting. Blending music, dance and theater, The Wanting showcases phinx's original songs and intense vocal performance, which has been described as a blend of Bjork, Marlene Dietrich and Prince. The five fearless dancers that are Kate Hutter, Arletta Anderson, Nick Heitzeberg, Stephanie Jamieson, and Williamson give combustible performances to illuminate the emotional discourse of their opposing internal desires of faith and flesh. An audience hungry for visceral storytelling, hard-hitting floor work, and candid gestures of the gut and psyche are invited to partake in an evening designed to smash. The music score is a mash up of electronic and acoustic greats that play on the complex discourse at hand. Fruit is both sweet and rotten; and is for mature audiences.
Williamson is a recognizable performer and artist on the LA Dance scene as company member in Maria Gillespie’s Oni Dance, founding member of LA Contemporary Dance Company (LACDC), and Stephan Koplowitz’s Taskforce Project. As a choreographer, Kevin offered audiences intimate and existential jaunts this past year in the highly acclaimed works pinky swear and Excavating Gray, both commissioned by LACDC. Now, he embarks on a new adventure as director of KDUB DANCE, a powerhouse performance company, whose goal is to implore questions about uncertainty, uniqueness, and hope through collaborative processes in the concert dance community in Los Angeles and beyond.
Highways Performance Space is Southern California's boldest center for new performance.
