Description
Mona Rogers in Person
by Philip-Dimitri Galas
Performed by Joan Spitler
Directed by Leigh Grode
Highways Performance Space Artistic Director Leo Garcia presents Mona Rogers in Person, a searing and humorous one-woman play written by the late Philip Dimitri-Galas, performed by Joan Spitler, and directed by Leigh B. Grode.
The playwright Philip Dimitri-Galas is the late brother of the singer Diamanda Galas. He was born in San Diego, where he perfected his self-described theater style of “Avant Vaudeville.” He passed away at the age of 32 in 1986 from AIDS, leaving behind a legacy of brilliant works.
Joan Spitler is a performance artist who has appeared in solo and collaborative works nationally over the past 15 years. Like Philip Dimitri-Galas, she was born in San Diego. She is a founding member of the Rachel Rosenthal Company, and currently creates monthly improvisational evenings with Rachel Rosenthal’s group Tohubohu! Original works by Joan Spitler include the infamous Women Who Kill Too Much, and Star.
Leigh B. Grode is an award-winning film and theater director who attended school in Europe at the University of Amsterdam and the Netherlands Film & Television Academy in Amsterdam. Since returning to the good old USA, Leigh has performed in Los Angeles in solo and group shows, and directed Joan Spitler in her one woman show Star.
