Very different from any other show/play/puppetry performance I've seen. Silken Veils has a little of everything - live acting, marionettes, awesome music, silhouette acting... pretty cool stuff.Written on Apr 28 2011

Silken Veils
Leila Ghaznavi
Nominated for a Fringe First Award for Best New Work at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Ghaznavi synthesizes Rumi poetry, puppetry and animation with live performance to tell the story of Darya, a woman who questions the value of love while reliving the passion and turbulence of her childhood in Iran during the Revolution of 1979 and the Iran-Iraq war.
Silken Veils features music composed by Hamed Nikpay and Houman Pourhmedi, two Iranian artists known for their innovative contemporary sounds blended with traditional Iranian instruments and techniques.
Performed by Leila Ghaznavi, Cady Zuckerman and Hilario Saavedra.
Leila Ghaznavi’s work as a playwright, actor and puppeteer has been seen domestically in Los Angeles, Chicago, Pittsburgh, and abroad in Edinburgh, Scotland; Bali, Indonesia and Kristiansand, Norway. She is a graduate of the Dell’Arte International School of Physical Theater and holds a M.F.A. in Acting from the California Institute of the Arts and a B.A. in music composition from Bryn Mawr College.
