Description
With a shared history as principal collaborators/company members of the Bessie and Obie-award winning New York-based Big Dance Theater, choreographer Stacy Dawson Stearns and Tymberly Canale bring new works to a shared evening of dance performance.
Bessie Award-winning Stacy Dawson Stearns will premiere her newest work "Magic Framework." In keeping with her dedication to visual fantasy and visceral surrender, Dawson Stearns and dancers Jessica Emmanuel and Tim Cummings slide through a manifestation of invisible blueprints, remembered spells and expressed releases accompanied by the original sounds of the Oh, Soon Orchestra and lighting artistry of Adam Hunter. Dawson Stearns has presented work nationally since 1996 in such venues as PS 122 (NYC), Town Hall (NYC), Mother (NYC), Galapagos (Booklyn), MassMOCA (Mass), Jacob's Pillow (Mass), The Yard (Mass), The Dance Place (Wash D.C), The Southern (Minneapolis), REDCAT (LA) and El Cid (LA).
Tymberly Canale presents two new works – “Snow (a study),” a dance theater duet performed by Canale and Israeli performer Neil Harris that takes us along unknown streets of Vienna in the winter and examines how a relationship can simply disappear into the cold, and “Off the Wall,” a solo piece performed by Chris Giarmo that juxtaposes the dust storm destruction that happened in America in the 1930’s with one man’s voracious personal requirement to look on the bright side of things. Canale is a choreographer, teacher and performer who has collaborated Big Dance Theater since 1995. She has also performed in the work of Poppo and the GoGo Boys, Richard Move, David Neumann, Stacy Dawson and Robert LaFosse. Her own choreography has been presented at The American Dance Festival, MIT and in New York City at The Tank, Catch, AUNTS, in a Main Stage production of Bertolt Brecht’s A Respectable Wedding at New York University, and in Tristan Tzara’s The Gas Heart for Big Dance Theater, which toured internationally to the EXIT Festival in France.
