This fun "mini-musical" adaptation of the timeless fairy tale features all of the memorable characters and age-old lessons that've made Beauty and the Beast a favorite for countless generations. It tells the story of Belle, a bright and beautiful young woman who's grown weary of fighting off the advances of the town's most arrogant bachelor. When her father becomes imprisoned in a mysterious castle -- full of enchanted characters, including a prince who's been turned into a monstrous beast -- she selflessly trades her own freedom for her father's. In the end, both Belle and the Beast learn valuable lessons about friendship and love, and that true radiance comes from within. All kids will receive a toy musical instrument upon entering the theater and are encouraged to boo for the villains, cheer for the heroes and sing and dance along in this fun-filled production. Not since Cirque du Soleil have aI enjoyed a show this much! Small theatre. Show is an hour and twenty minutes, and REALLY, REALLY FUN. The magic is CRAZY. My friend and I are still trying to figure out some of the stuff he did—plus, there’s this whole story about how he grew up wanting to be a world-famous magician, and how he had to go through all these levels at the Magic Castle. A lot of funny stuff too, he played around with the audience a lot, very off-the-cuff, but he worked it into the material somehow. This was like a comedy-magic-hour—it gets serious for a few minutes towards the end—which was very moving actually...but then it’s back to fun. SO GOOD. My sister is coming to town in a couple weeks and I am bringing her.
Quotes & Highlights
- "The magic tricks — whether transforming objects, levitation or demonstrating telepathic powers — are first rate, and executed by Selznick and his assistants ... with matter-of-fact assurance that belies the intricate sleights-of-hand involved. What most distinguishes Smoke and Mirrors, however, is the personal connection that Selznick explores between his life and his art ... Perhaps his greatest trick of all: making boredom completely disappear." --Los Angeles Times
