Director Arthur Hiller will be appearing at the Aero Theatre for a live discussion, accompanied by a screening of two witty and entertaining comedies. The In-Laws, starring Peter Falk and Alan Arkin, is one of the funniest movies of the past 25 years. Written by the great Andrew Bergman and directed by Hiller, The In-Laws follows the travails of a middle-class dentist (Arkin) who finds himself thrown together with a delusional CIA agent (Falk) when their children decide to get married. Moon Over Parador, directed by Paul Mazursky, is the story of what happens when a mediocre actor (played brilliantly by Richard Dreyfuss) is hired to take the place of a recently deceased South American dictator whom he resembles. The film also stars Raul Julia and Jonathan Winters.

Description

The In-Laws, 1979, Warner Bros., 103 min. Dir. Arthur Hiller. Giant tsetse flies, the Bay of Pigs, dictators with talking hands, flames on your car: One of the laugh-out-loud funniest movies of the past 25 years stars Alan Arkin as a middle-class dentist who finds himself thrown together with delusional CIA agent Peter Falk when their children decide to get married. Serpentine, Shel, serpentine! [35mm]

Moon over Parador, 1988, Universal, 103 min. Dir. Paul Mazursky. When a South American dictator dies, an actor with a strong resemblance to him is hired to take his place. The actor (a brilliant Richard Dreyfuss) isn't crazy about the gig, but when he gets a taste of power - and a look at the dictator's hot companion - he suddenly changes his tune. Raul Julia and Jonathan Winters provide support (with cameos from Dick Cavett, Sammy Davis Jr., and Charo!) in this typically hilarious piece of humanist satire from director Paul Mazursky. [35mm]
