With the recent death of drummer Levon Helm, the world lost not only an incredible musician, but also a talented actor. American Cinematheque presents a double feature of Helms' work where you can experience both his musical and acting sides with The Last Waltz and Coal Miner's Daughter. Directed by Martin Scorsese, The Last Waltz is one of the greatest concert films ever made, a document of The Band's final concert. The musical event featured guest appearances by Van Morrison, Joni Mitchell, Paul Butterfield, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton and Neil Young, all lovingly captured on film. Then, enjoy Helm's acting debut in the Loretta Lynn biopic Coal Miner's Daughter where he plays Lynn's father Ted Webb. Sissy Spacek won an Oscar for her portrayal of the country music star, who rises from poverty to become one of the most popular musicians of all time. Tommy Lee Jones excels as Lynn's troubled manager and husband.
