San Jose Wind Symphony presents an afternoon flute fantasy with Jim Walker, former principal flautist with the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Walker will perform François Borne's Carmen Fantasy. Borne was a master at composing for the flute. His compositions were created at the height of flute design and technique in France, and are designed to show off the virtuosity of a skilled flautist. A real crowd pleaser, Borne's piece runs through the main themes of the Bizet opera in about 12 minutes with plenty of exciting flourishes. The program then continues the fantasy with a journey through the magic of cinema, with music from the movies Raiders of the Lost Ark; Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

I really liked the variety in the program, from the classical pieces to the fun ones such as music from John Williams' Raiders of the Last Ark.
