Nova Vista Symphony closes out its 2012-2013 concert season with Gustav Mahler's glorious Symphony No. 5, under the baton of music director Anthony Quartuccio. The work showcases all the strengths of the orchestra, providing triumphant brass, exquisite solos and deeply moving string passages in addition to a personal look into Mahler's private life and and tragedies he suffered. Description
San Jose Wind Symphony's second concert of the season takes the ensemble on the road, as they explore the highways and back roads of the good ol' USA. This musical journey takes the audience from Schuman’s New England Tryptich, through Copland’s Tenderland and on down to Karrick’s Bayou Breakdown. Special guest Dale Wolford performs Creston’s classic Concerto for Saxophone.
About the Ticket Supplier: San Jose Wind Symphony
San Jose Wind Symphony (SJWS) was founded in 1958 at San Jose City College by conductor emeritus Darrell Johnston. The group has become one of the finest community bands in the country, drawing players from a diverse assortment of backgrounds and professions.
Over the years, SJWS has been invited to numerous musical events, including the Music Education National Conference in Anaheim, the California Music Educators Association in San Jose, and the Association of Concert Bands convention in Salinas. Many well-known artists have performed with SJWS, including Maynard Ferguson, Frederick Fennell, Keith Brion, Paul Horn, Col. Arnold Gabriel and the New York Woodwind Quintet.
In 1991, SJWS was invited by the Tourism Board of Switzerland to help celebrate Switzerland's 700th anniversary in Luzern. In 1997, the band performed by invitation at the 1997 World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles (WASBE) Conference in Schladming, Austria.
